A Mother's Secret: The heartbreaking, unforgettable new novel from Irish novelist Caroline Finnerty

An accident that occurs, followed by one woman's misguided pursuit to find the truth, shocks one family and nearly devastates another. Although one part of the plot is easy enough to guess, the result, or aftermath, does not become clear until closer to the end. I read feverishly, wondering at every turn what would happen next. It's a great story, well worth the read. I enjoyed it very much and, this being my first, would try another book from this author. We may hold some divergent views if her beliefs are reflected in her characters. For example, I don't think, as one of the main characters seems to suggest, that God is a genie, an entity at our whim whose value or existence is determined by whether or not we get what we want in life. Even so, the author is an excellent writer with an enviable ability to weave a good tale. I anticipate enjoying another book written by her just as much!

I was drawn in within the first few pages. Twists and turns at every pass, and nothing predictable. Lots of pulling of the heart strings and evidence of the undying love a parent has for a child. And lessons in humility and forgiveness.

I really enjoyed this story. A heartbreaking yet heart-warming story. It had its happy moments and sad moments. It brought tears to my eyes a few time. Thankfully the author didn't leave you hanging by adding the epilogue at the end to make it a happy ending.

I bought the Audible version of this book to keep me occupied during my 3 hour commute each way to work. First time I'd tried an audiobook and this story didn't disappoint. While it was pretty easy to tell early on what was going to happen in terms of the general storyline, there were many plot twists that I didn't see coming, keeping me eagerly awaiting each new chapter until the very end!

While this was a good story overall, the predictability left me wanting more. Because I could see what was coming, it felt like a lot of the book could have been cut out. Perhaps I just prefer a different style of writing.

How broken would you be if you had a wife who while married to you had a one night stand that produced a beautiful girl? Then she dies! Wow what a terrifying prospect. Great book and a good reason to not sleep with an old friend.

Such a heartbreaking story! I couldn't put it down!! Caroline Finnerty is an amazing author and I can't wait to read more of her books!!

This story will take your breath away and not give it back to you until the final chapter. The author brings out the unbearable reality of the pain of loss. She brings out the depth of anguish as something that is open and raw. Be ready for the flow never stops.

I soon got drawn into this family story and have never needed my hankie as much during a book. This author certainly knows how to pull at your heartstrings.

This was a fantastic story. Totally heartbreaking for so many reasons. I really enjoyed getting the different POVs of the characters as I felt it helped me truly understand their motivations. It’s not an easy book and very different to what I usually read but it had me hooked.
