It's An Amazing Saw... If You Know What It's Intended For
For weeks, I went back-and-forth deciding whether to buy a traditional gas chainsaw or this Dewalt cordless model. I don't have a ton of trees to maintain, but the ones I do have are sizable (around 18" diameter). So I decided to give this chainsaw a try and I haven't regretted it. You're not going to cut cords of firewood with this thing because the battery overheats with constant use, and the batteries won't last for hours. However, if your cutting is somewhat limited to smaller jobs, this saw is great. It definitely gets the job done and the supplied chain is sharp and lasts. Dewalt didn't skimp on the chain. It's not a light duty chainsaw either. Yes, the battery life is limited, but this thing cuts and cuts well like a decent prosumer gas powered chainsaw. Would buy again.

Great Saw
I bought this chainsaw for my husband as a Christmas gift. I was skeptical at first about buying a battery operated chainsaw. I grew up in a generation where two strokes were the only way to go even with their unreliability. I’ll have to admit that this chainsaw exceeded my expectations. It’s lightweight, easy to use and has a great battery life. We ran it for a solid 20 minutes cutting large tree limbs and barely put a dent in the battery usage. It’s a great value for this battery chainsaw. Great function and easy to maneuver.

No more buying gas!!!
Pictures show fire wood I cut with 2 battery chargings. I'm 75 years old and that works great for me besides I need 2 battery chargings at my age. Cuts smooth and fast for a battery chain saw. Did the first cutting in the morning put the battery on the charger. Had lunch and then cut the rest after lunch. Thanks for a great product.

Good Ssw w/an Anoying Safety Feature
I had the earlier smaller version and liked it. I used it to limb and make rounds of the trunk of a good sized redwood. The battery lasted as long as I lasted for a session. It failed out of warranty and although I could have had it fixed for for about $100 and the cost of shipping (no good local service center) I decided to get a the newer 18". So far it has worked its way through two more tree removals (a pro dropped one tree and I dropped the other) and bucked a lot of softwood and oak to rounds (for easier reemval up hill) or to fierwood length. The annoying feature is apparently a common safety device now, the saw is sensitive to chain drag when you pull the trigger and may just stop. Seems to be another anti-kickback measure. Anyway you used to it and work accordingly. Also no oil leaks when stored, unlike some other DW saws including the 16" that I otherwise liked.

Eats batteries, but is quiet as a mouse and powerful as a horse
So the battery dies in like minutes if you’re an aggressive sort of user… So have lots of batteries, but boy it’s quiet and it’s powerful and it does a nice job. Don’t forget to put an oil in it just because you don’t have to put in gas. I love this thing, I wish I had 10 batteries though. I still have to have my gas chainsaws with me if I think I’m gonna do any amount of work.

Great saw - chain slips off
This saw is great. However the chain slips off of it every 3 uses - this is crazy. I contacted Dewalt - they want me to send it in for service 3-5 weeks and if they see that I did something to cause it, they’ll charge me. It was very expensive saw - and if you don’t have a battery even more expensive. Will slowly fade away from Dewalt as honestly seems like their approach to backing their product s has changed

Works great, but the chain has to be tighter than a gas powered saw.
Smooth cutting, decent run time, and well balanced. When first using this saw it kept throwing the chain. I was used to a gas-powered saw and chain tension. This saw requires a much tighter chain tension. Once I increased the tension it worked great.

Good chain saw
I've had this for over a year and it performs great. It does leak a little chain oil but usually I can leave it on its side it and that works well.
