Works great for 4K with HDR, on both HDMI and DisplayPort
As a drive, it does its job, and works flawlessly. All of the complaints thus far have been from people who don't have the other components necessary to playback 4K or HDR. You can't blame the wrong component folks!I have several of these drives installed with AsRock Fatal1ty Z270 ITX/ac boards with KBL i7-7700K's. The beautiful advantage of using this particular board is that it's the only Mini-ITX board I'm aware of that has support for both DisplayPort output, and also HDMI 2.0.This enables me to connect to my Dell UP2718Q (with the firmware update) 4K HDR monitor via either DP or HDMI showing 4K and HDR on both signal paths. You need the monitor firmware update, because out of the box the UP2718Q only ships with HDCP2.2 enabled on the HDMI link.I have also able to connect it to an Asus MX27UC on both DP or HDMI - although both without HDR support as this monitor doesn't have HDR.I'm also able to get it working out to HDR TVs too, I've tested with both LG and Samsung TVs.You need to update the BIOS, the motherboard as shipped (at least when I got it) doesn't have SGX enabled firmware. Then after the BIOS update you need to go into the BIOS and actually switch on SGX, it's off by default. Then you need to install the latest Intel Management Engine Drivers - download the SGX version 11.0.6 I think from AsRock's website, or the 11.0.7 version from Intel downloadcenter.intel.com (it's labeled for the NUC, but it's the same driver for all KBL boards). Then install Cyberlink's Power DVD software which comes with the drive, and as soon as you play a disk it will install the SGX driver software. The Blu Ray Advisor tool is also very helpful, I recommend downloading that to guide you through finding out your system deficiencies and then fixing them one by one (BIOS, drivers, etc). Note that the warning about SGX might not go away until after you've installed Cyberlink Blu Ray player, and actually inserted a disk and tried to play it.

Perfect for UltraHD playback
I don't get the stupid reviews, which gives less than 5 stars, because they still can't play back UHD discks. It is not the driver's fault! It is the fault of the publishers, who created ridiculous requirements. In my case:PowerDVD16 does not compatible - buy PowerDVD 183 years old write-everything-read-everything Pioneer drive does not compatible - buy this one2 years old computer does not support that stupid DRM - I will buy a new oneVideo card does not support that stupid DRM - according to nVidia forums, it won't, I will need the onboard one.I am not sure if my monitor will be good enough to this, but I have the assumption that it won't: it has no audio output, and I don't think I will be able to send out audio signal from the computer, not even through the onboard audio. So, playing back LEGAL content on a computer is made to be a nightmare, but THIS DRIVE IS GOOD! Don't deserve low ratings!

excellent drives
man, pioneer makes the best disc drives. i have used lg, samsung, liteon...and so on and so on and all crap out so quickly. meanwhile my pioneer ones are still running. i have had about 5 now. all are still working 10 years later with the exception of one in that i have to hit hte button twice to get it to eject otherwise it runs fine. meanwhile all the others have long since made it to the recycling bin.

Pointless product, don't buy for UHD playback
I was hoping to upgrade my media center to play UHD BD disks. Yes this reads them, but there is basically no way to play them unless you want to turn a functional media center living room PC into useless limited overpriced media player. Here are the gotchas -- you need intel SGX support, that was introduced with the Skylake line, so theoretically Skylake should be enough. You need HDCP 2.2 support, so theoratically any graphics card supporting HDCP 2.2 should be enough. You need Windows 10, so theoretically a Windows 10 PC with a Skylake CPU and an HDCP 2.2 compliant graphics card should be enough. NO. You can't build a PC which you could then use for living room gaming and play 4K BD disks on because you HAVE to use a a Cabylake CPU and INTEGRATED graphics. Seriously? This product should simply not exist if the limitations on are so severe. I read through the requirements of Cyberlink PowerDVD 17 and somehow missed the IGP bit. I build a SGX capable system, with this drive being the center piece. Then PowerDVD says, nope -- your HDCP 2.2 graphics card will not work because we will ONLY support the garbage Intel graphics. Sorry -- all the parts have been packed up and being returned. Along with this useless overpriced glorified BD drive. This drive is defective by design, or by DRM. Just buy an Xbox One S and play UHD 4K on that. PowerDVD 17 will also be returned. I'll stick to PowerDVD 14 and will never upgrade from that since the only feature worth upgrading to is UHD 4k, and I will not pull out a $600 Nvidia GPU out of my living room PC so that I can make some one at Intel happy. Apparently these companies don't want our money. Don't waste your time on this. You want BD playback, get a cheaper BD drive.
