Really good book
I like this book because it tells you about a boy named Kevin who saves the universe from getting destroyed. He even got to see real life aliens that can speak English .

Ends on a cliffhanger... but can be read as a standalone book.
I think that the first half of this book was a bit better than the second half. The second half might really appeal to some of the young boys that I know, but it goes "over the top" very quickly. Extreme hyperbole. Now, that can be a really good thing for some young boys who are looking for something to read. The story is acceptable, and the characters are better developed than in some children's books. The characters lack the depth that an adult would look for, but, lets remember the target market...As a reader, I prefer children's books that stand on their own. My kids are not voracious readers, and most books these days are serialized or they are part of a trilogy. There isn't anything wrong with that but writing a story that stands on its own is beginning to be a dying art. If I were an author then I would prefer to write serials and trilogies too, but as a parent I like to see stand alone stories as well.Anyway the main story is resolved, but then on the last page the author puts in a whopper of a cliffhanger. So the book kind of does stand on its own, but at the same time, the author compels the reader to wonder what will happen next. There are a couple plot holes but I think that most kids wouldn't pick up on them. I won't list them here but there are some things that don't quite add up.There are sparse illustrations in the book that will help some intermediate readers to understand the story without having to use all their own imagination. The illustrations break up the text a little and I think they are good.

Good story for kids 8-12, but ends in a cliff hanger.
I started out really loving Galaxy's Most Wanted. It's a very fun, enjoyable read, especially for kids who like science/math/technology and/or are a little bit on the nerdy side. It tells the story of 5 friends who are competing with the rich camp bullies to win the science fair at camp - they decide to build a device from a comic book and accidentally end up summoning a dangerous alien to Earth. There are a lot of great elements; enough gross-out humor to keep kids ages 8-12 entertained, silly jokes, comic-style drawings, and a lot of fun hijinx. It's a little derivative in spots, but it's a kids' book, and I wouldn't subtract a star for that. From a parental standpoint, there are many good things to discuss with your kids: handling bullies, unfair situations, is winning everything, continuing to try even when you despair about the outcome, what do you do when an action to take to mean well turns out to have negative repercussions, and friendship. But then the book turns out to be a cliffhanger. As a parent, I find this extremely annoying, because it means that my kid will be pestering me to buy the next in the series. I like the book and would definitely be more willing to do that if it wasn't essentially forced upon me. I'd be especially loathe to do that if the next book ALSO ended in a cliffhanger. My son has a really difficult time with uncertain events and will be asking me "what do you think happened" until the next book does get written.
