Sophomore Album "Shatters" Expectations
I found Lindsey Stirling through Pandora radio and then started subscribing to her YouTube channel. As great as her covers are of modern pop/electronica songs--I'm thinking of her collaboration-cover with Pentatonix "Radioactive" and another cover "Thrift Store" in particular--and of more "geeky" songs--check out her Star Wars & Zelda medleys, as well as her Skyrim and Halo covers--her original stuff can simply not be beat.I was expecting more of her violin to feature, like in her first album, but boy, does she break all of my preconceived notions of what Lindsey could deliver in this sophomore album--and that's saying something! Her execution is technically excellent, with lots of syncopated rhythms and double stops, and always energetic (but never rushed). This album, more so than her debut self-titled release, leans more toward a modern dubstep/electronica feeling. And--even better!--she's collaborated with two FANTASTIC vocalists for songs with lyrics. So now, we can not only bob our heads to the music, we can sing along. The titular track, "Shatter Me," is a one of these, and the lyrics resonate deeply with anyone struggling to reconcile self-imposed limitations and restrictions with the desire to do more and see more and be more than you ever imagined. The bridge, especially, illustrates this struggle: "If I break the glass, then I'll have to fly / There's nobody to catch me if I take a dive / I'm scared of changing, the days stay the same..."As a new professional with a sister about to step out of college for the first time, these words in particular stick with me. The other song with lyrics, "We Are Giants," follows a similar theme, and appropriately comes after "Shatter Me." The latter is all about breaking out; the former is about what you could be once you do so. I prefer "Shatter Me" to "We Are Giants," but they're both great songs, especially when you consider that this is Lindsey's first time writing lyrics.Lindsey Stirling's music is breathtaking, every bit as inspirational as the woman herself. I'll be listening to her album on repeat for quite a while. I bought the album for my sister, but I'm so glad I get to keep the digital copy for myself!

violins and dubstep, together as one... who knew?
I stumbled across Lindsey's first album and then started hearing the music everywhere. Being a fan of an eclectic range of music I was immediately a fan of Lindsey. I preordered Shatter Me and I am glad I did.Fans of the older work should enjoy this album as the sound and feel is similar. While to complain that it is too similar is a valid opinion, one can also say "if it ain't broke...", for familiar and fantastic is far preferable to the cringe-worthy sophomoric letdown. In terms of the mastering complaints made by serious audiophiles, it is possible to hear some of the "muddiness" when you actively seek it but I think most people won't have the systems, or the trained ears, to make this a problem. As a fat and happy audio layperson, I say--- listen to the samples and if you aren't able to fully enjoy this fun, energetic, gorgeous music then I am sorry. Having worked in another entertainment field, I understand what it is like to be a critic on that other level. From both sides of the coin, I get it, but sometimes one must accept art as it is, foibles and all.Good job Lindsey and Co.! And happy listening, music fans!

Lindsey Stirling is the Ballerina with a Violin and the heart of an angel
Absolutely love the cover art on Ms. Stirling's second album: she is every bit a dancing ballerina with a violin. The CD comes with a nice insert that tells the story of the cover art - and the story seems much more like truth than fiction for this woman. The second half of the album becomes a bit repetitive in this work (or so it seems to me so far, perhaps I will hear it differently over time). But the first cut (Beyond The Veil, also a video on YouTube) is the best on the album, and my favorite so far.The only thing I would personally wish for, is for Lindsey to include more of the collaborations she has done with so many different artists, on her albums. Maybe there is some sort of licensing or contractual issue at work there, but I really would prefer to have the entire set of works on a CD (mainly because I rip them to Loss-less format for critical listening). I can't rip an iTunes download to a loss-less format (maybe someday Apple will permit that, but not yet).Anyway, this is a must-have for all the Lindsey Stirling fans out there. What are you waiting for?
