I spent a lot of time researching knife sharpening, and it seems like this specific type, aka the pull-through double disk style, is the most convenient way to sharper a kitchen knife without damaging it. It is not a replacement for a true complete sharpening as claimed by a Work Sharp employee on some podcast, but you can get away with just using this for the kitchen needs. Same goes for the quality of the sharpening, sharp enough for the kitchen needs, but not sharp enough for the arm hair test. It works in a completely different way than a carbide V-shaped sharpener, and removes only a very tiny amount of metal. It doesn't seem to require cleaning, but I wish there was an easy way to do it, since you can clearly see the disks getting darker. Compact, fast and easy to use. Great price.

Great for quick maintenance. Not as good as a whet stone, but sharpens enough to slice tomatoes in less than a minute.

My knives are sharp again. 3 to 5 pulls through this sharpener did the trick. Quality item that should last.

I have the ken onion work sharp so I thought I'd give this a try for kitchen knives....it's ok but not great

This sharpener has been great for restoring an edge on my older, dull knives. Using the coarse side first followed by the finer side, I was able to resurrect knives that were long thought to be worthless. It has also proven very useful to keep my better knives sharp when honing is now longer effective. When I showed a friend how it sharpened a dull enough to slice paper thin slices of cherry tomatoes, he immediately bought one himself. I highly recommend.
