Scotch-Weld Structural Plastic Adhesive DP8005 Black, 45 mL Duo-Pak, 99352

I have a John Deere tractor and it was leaking diesel from a crack in the plastic tank. I couldn’t fill it over a quarter tank without it leaking. The dealer wanted about $1500 to replace the tank and said it was unrepairable. I tried some other products that failed to work and was about to give up. Then I saw this and gave it a try since it is made for the special type of plastic these fuel tanks are made of. It is still working after 2 months of use. It was very easy to use and requires no special prep, but the glue gun I had to buy to apply it was stupidly expensive for what it is. Anyway, the $130 I spent for both was still far better than replacing the tank. Even if the leak returns I have plenty left to keep repairing it.

Why did you pick this product vs others?: The adhesive is advertised to work specifically for automotive plastics. I was doubtful, as every other adhesive I have tried did not work very well, if it worked at all, but this stuff works! For the price, it better have, as it is really expensive. Finding the right dispenser was a chore, but I finally found one on eBay that was not more expensive than the adhesive itself.

Using it to glue endcap to NDS channel drain. NDS said the plastic is HDPE, high density polyethylene, and recommended contact cement. I tried contact contact cement and PVC and neither worked. Contact cement was tacky but definitely not strong. PVC did not adhere and flaked off. This glue has 3 min work time during which the glue remains pliable. Glue mixture has consistency of yellow mustard and will fill 1/16" - 1/8" gap. It dries after 3-4 hours and is very strong. I can't pull it apart! I wiped contacting surfaces clean before application but no further treatment beyond that (e.g., sanding, flame). The only downside is that it needs a special applicator gun, which includes the necessary 10:1 pistons to get the right mix. You also need a 10:1 nozzle. Listen to what the other reviewer said. I bought the applicator gun (which 10:1 and 1:1 pistons), nozzle, and glue from amazon.

Sorry, the rating has nothing to do with the product itself, but has to do with AMAZON. I purchased the recommended gun with the product except it is not compatible with this the ratio was incorrect. Found another gun with correct ratio...But 3M cartridge does not fit it... Very frustrating. And you want me to trust AI after that?

I’ve used this twice to repair broken plastic parts on vehicles. It leaves a messy bead, but makes a strong bond where epoxies simply won’t hold.

Why did you pick this product vs others?: Sealed polyethelene tank

Very strong. I couldn’t find anything to successfully bond hdpe to itself. This worked for my application and I will order more for my next hdpe job. Critical to have the correct gun and tips for mixing properly.
