This is the pedal package you want! Do not buy the pedal-only version! (Mac OSX user)
Wow. I usually hire transcriptionists, but I have the occasional need to do one or two myself. Transcriptionists have always told me that they couldn't live without their pedals, and now I know why! I use Mac OSX 10.10.2 on a MacBook Pro Retina. This package came with a CDROM, but I downloaded ExpressScribe from the vendor's site instead to get the latest version. The software registration seemed overly complex but worked smoothly. The pedal installed without requiring any additional drivers. Then I started transcribing a short interview that I needed quickly. The MP3 imported easily. At first the pedals seemed backwards-whoever heard of rewind on the right and fast forward on the left? But this was easy to change within the Preferences. Then I got sick of rewinding and changed it again to 1-click 5-second rewind, which was also easy to do. I'm not a fast typist, but I would estimate that my transcription speed is almost double what it was before using the pedal. I'm still debating whether to use tap-lock or not, but all of these features are easily configurable. The pedal itself is heavy, which is good because you are going to be banging your foot on it many times every time you use it. It is nicely contoured and easy to find the three different controls (left-center-right). I strongly recommend that you purchase this package rather than the pedal alone. This comes with ExpressScribe Pro, which is the pedal control software. The Pro version opens more types of files, which is reason enough to spend a few extra bucks. There are other differences you can read about on the vendor's web site. Find it in Australia on Google. Highly recommended for doing a great job right out of the box.

Great Problem Resolution - read for more info
The software and foot pedal were very easy to set up and configure for my use. On the second day of use, I discovered a problem with the play button on my foot pedal. I contacted AAA Dictation (found via google, they're in Brooklyn). WONDERFUL customer service. I purchased from them via their Amazon store, and they diagnosed my unit as defective after having me check some settings in my software. They offered the option of sending out a new one and picking up my old one, or doing the same via Amazon. I've got Prime, so I will be swapping out my defective pedal. The registered software is really nice, and does more than I need.

Easy to use, and very affordable!!
I ordered this product for my mother... My mom was using an older transcribing machine where you put in a little cassette tape and then type as you play and stop the tape. When her boss switched everything over to emailing her the tracks instead of mailing tapes, she was seriously playing the tracks and recording it onto the tapes and then using her old machine to start her transcribing process. It was seriously aweful! She informed me that her machine broke and she was having a difficult time finding a replacement like her old machine, since newer machines don't allow for cassette tapes anymore. My mom doesn't do well with change and didn't know that she could be saving herself so much more time by just getting a software program instead! I ordered Express Scribe and couldn't be happier with my purchase!! Not only did they give me the software IMMEDIATELY through email after I purchased it, but it was so simple to use!! I was able to show my mom how to use it, and she was elated with how much time she was going to be able to save herself! I love this product for being easy and comprehensive (not to mention super affordable!!) and my mom loves this for helping her do her job!! If you are in the market for a transcribing device, I truly recommend this product!

Good Product. Works a treat!
The program is fairly intuitive to use. No complaints on the operation and functionality. The foot pedal works a like a charm. Oddly, by default, rewind is on the right and FF on the left but you can change that and other functions in the options menu. The down side is I had to disable my antivirus temporarily for the install (typical with NCH software). The CD install itself was a bit convoluted but I fumbled around and got it to register & install. Overall, it was money well spent.

Does the job.
I don't have much experience transcribing, so I don't have much to compare this too. However, I needed to transcribe a number of interviews for my dissertation, so I needed something the help. This pedal works really well in conjunction with the software. The software is a little odd to install and gives the impression of being one small step above malware, but it is not bad in the end and it works like a charm. I installed it on my two laptops and have been able to use the pedal easily with both of them. When you push the pedal, the recording goes back slightly so you can hear a word or two of what came before. For my typing speed and ability, that's just right. I was able to transcribe about 15 minutes of interview in one hour. I'm sure more accomplished typists could do much better. In any case, if you have to transcribe, this appears to be a very solid pedal/software package and it's worth the price if you have any amount of transcribing to do or if you have a high-impact project that has to get done.
