Not a replacement for cholesterol medication
This supplement has worked well for me. I have changed my diet so I was able to get off of a statin drug. I have been taking this artichoke supplement to maintain cholesterol levels along with my diet and exercise. I do work closely with my primary Dr and get regular bloodwork. Be sure and read the cautions/side effects. This can make your tummy rumble as well. If you have ever eaten artichokes, you know what I mean.

Artichoke for HDL/LDL Ratio
I began taking this product + Bergamot + Olive Leaf Extract and at my 6-months follow-up to my Annual Physical, my LDL had dropped 30 points. I told my doctor what I had been taking and he didn't believe me. Read the label on this product, it explains how artichoke actually suppresses the enzyme produced by the liver that oxidizes HDL to LDL. Be careful if you have been diagnosed with Gall Stones because artichoke increases bile production by the liver. This increased flow could move the stones around in the Gall Bladder causing intense pain. If you do not have gall stones, this extra flow of bile should prevent the formation of Gall Stones which are a result of over-concentration of bile stored in the Gall Bladder. This could explain why artichoke is often the vegetable of choice of top chefs with certain fried or greasy foods.

May be ok for some but not for me
I bought this for my son because I read it was good for IBS, this is the second brand I bought. I didn't realize all the other added ingredients or I would not have bought it. This product may work for other people but it did not work for us.

Great alternative to prescription!
I have tried many natural alternatives to control my cholesterol. Heard about this one while sitting at my doctors office on Health Accent. This product has proven to be the best for me and without side effects. Though my total cholesterol is still slightly elevated, all the other levels are great. I will continue to use this product as I have, which is 2 tablets twice daily with or after a meal. Please keep in mind that a healthy diet is also a must and of course adding exercise is even better. Thank you.

Use it for lowering Cholestrol
I just finished the whole bottle and had the result back. It was another 10 points drop total from last year. Actually, I was already normal last year. But I just wanted to keep the same number because prior to two years ago. I had border line high cholesterol. like around 230.. now (last year was 181) Mine total this year is 172.Artichoke extract helping or not, I am not really sure. Because I believe most of the people who had high cholesterol must do other things besides taking one supplement. (I sometimes once a day, sometimes twice a day along meal)1. They take more supplement. Me too. I took artichoke along with milk thistle, Turmeric, Cinnamon, and fish oil2. Diet and what you eat - less pork, beef, and more vegi or fiber food will definitely help. I also eat water melon, and almonds daily3. Exercise - some people say this is important, well yes, but to me I only do like once a week. So I am thinking the intake is more important than exercise. btw, I increased 5 lbs comparing to last year by not exercising so much yet the cholesterol is lower.. I think it is the diet and/or supplements that work.About artichoke and this supplement, I would encourage you to take it along with other stuff. Unless you just want to find out only this will work. Then you can take it and have it tested it every 2 or 3 months. To me, I think you should take this daily once a day, and other stuff.Never taking too much supplement, take a variety of others and it may help your heart and your liver.

Bad reaction to this
I have used Source Naturals products for 15 years and like the brand. But I had a bad reaction to the artichoke extract, which I had never taken until buying a bottle of this recently. After taking the supplement for two days, I developed sores in my mouth. My whole mouth ached, including tongue, teeth and mucous membranes and I couldn't eat anything acidic. Since I wasn't sure this supplement caused the reaction, I stopped taking it, waited about 10 days, then took one pill again. Same effect, only the sores seemed more painful the second time. The strange thing is that I have never had an allergic reaction to anything before: supplements, medicines, foods or pollen. I always assumed I'm not allergic to anything. I eat artichokes all the time, so I know they aren't a problem for me. And as I say, I trust this brand (and still do). I can't find any reports on Web MD or Consumer Lab on allergic reactions to artichoke extract, so I seem to be an anomaly. I'd like to hear if anyone else has had an allergic reaction to any brand of artichoke extract.

Artichoke Extract
This was suggested to me, to lower cholesterol so I took it for 1 month, and had it checked again, andit did go down some. I think it helps, but check with you Dr. first I did.
