Ponyo Picture Book

Absolutely beautiful book. I bought this book for my friend's son who just watched the movie for the first time. The illustrations are gorgeous. He loved the book and all the pictures in it. I highly recommend to any Studio Ghibli fan.

When I went on a Miya-san book purchasing binge from Viz, I wasn't sure how these picture books would relate to the 'Art of' books. Turns out these picture books are just that, re-tellings of the movies using the cell artwork and word balloons where appropriate. The glossy pages and images hold up well and the hardcovers are well manufactured in this batch. These books are suitable to reading to small children as bed time stories, though older readers may appreciate them just as much. They are complimentary to the 'Art of' books, but not replacements. Ponyo is in my top three Miyazaki films (with Totoro, and KiKi) and the exuberance and determination of Ponyo to be with Sosuke leaps off the pages as she rides the wave to be with him. I love the backgrounds in this film and the Devonian era sea-life making its way up and down the flooded coastal village. Still very recommended.

Love Studio Ghibli! I bought this book along with some others to have around the house because the art is amazing! The book came in great condition. There were no tears, pages ripped, or corners bent. I thoroughly enjoy looking at it all the time.

My family and I are huge Miyazaki fans and we own all of his movies. My personal favorites are My Neighbor Totoro and Ponyo. I was disappointed to read that the Ponyo DVD/Blu-Ray won't be released until April or May 2010...way too long for avid fans like myself and our five year-old daughter. I got her this for Christmas and we "savored" reading it over a course of 3-4 nights. The pictures are gorgeous, and it is very thorough and I actually learned a few details from the book that I didn't catch from the film e.g. that the senior citizens' center was being covered by a giant jelly fish and which is why they could breathe underwater. It is such a wonderful book that I am ordering 2 more copies-one to give to a friend and one to keep for prosperity as I felt bad "wrinkling" the pages on such a work of Art. If you enjoyed Ponyo, you really must buy this wonderful book.

It’s personalized and doesn’t have the paper jacket but that’s okay because it’s an older book. :) I hope whoever has owned it loved it. I thank them for passing it on.

This is a somewhat odd story with unexpected moments that will trigger interesting conversations with your child. The heroes of the book are around age 5 and have a lot of responsibility and freedom, which my kid really enjoys hearing about. The art is vivid. Your kids will grow their vocabulary by listening to you read or by reading this themselves. You don't need to watch the movie to love this book -- my kid loved the book for months prior to ever seeing the movie. The characters are pretty realistic, and experience a range of emotions. Lots to love in this unusual book.

This book was a gift for my nephew. The pictures are high quality and the book is well made. We were impressed by the quality. Perfect for Ghibli fans.

Our family loves all the Studio Ghibli / Miyazaki movies, and Ponyo is one of the favorites. Long ago, we purchased the Totoro picture book and was extremely pleased with it, I don't know why it took us so long to purchase the Ponyo one. Like the Totoro book, the Ponyo book is a great book and tremendous value. It follows the movie storyline and a good majority of the dialogue. The pictures are awesome, and if you know anything about Ghibli/Miyazaki films, the animation is super detailed and beautiful, particularly paying lots of respect and attention to nature.

Ponyo is yet another brilliant and magical Miyazaki/Studio Ghibli film, and this picture book adaptation is extremely faithful, albeit a tad condensed (as is to be expected). If you and/or your child love Ponyo, this is a must-have addition to your library. My daughter and I adore the film, and I loved reading this book to her.

C'est un super livre autant pour les grands que pour les petits. ma fille passe beaucoup de temps à regarder les images. ça m'évite de lui mettre le dessin animé tout le temps. Raport qualité-prix : super affaire. la qualité du papier est très bien. pour le pris je m'attendais à quelque chose de petit mais quand je l'ai reçu, j'ai été surprise par le format un peu plus grand qu'un format A4
