Merrill Reading Program, I Can Student Reader, Level A: Student Reader Level A (MERRILL LINGUISTIC RDG PROG)

This was purchased on the recommendation of my granddaughters reading tutor. The girls are in first grade.This reading program consists of 8 programs. " I Can" is the first book. The words that are introduced in this reader are under the headings words in patterns and sight words. The pattern words in this book are at,an,ap, ad,am and ag.Each word in each group begins with a different consonant letter. The consonant letters introduced in this reader are, b,c,d,f,h,j,l,m,n,r,s,t,v and w. as the child progresses words ending in s are presented.Sight words are introduced prior to each story to provide normal sentence patters.Your child must have recognition and identification of the alphabet prior to using this book. The repetitive of the words in the short stories provide positive reinforcement as the child is mastering the words. The stories are simple and i would suggest asking them questions after the story to improve their comprehension. If your child has basic skills and familiar with letters and sounds this is a good book to introduce reading. I did this with my 3 1/2 year granddaughter and she has the book mastered.

I bought this used book and it came in great condition. You could barely tell it was used. The book is a great resource for students needing remediation at the beginning reading level. I use this book in class. I bought this book to use with my own children at home.

Finally found something that works to reach my 1st grader how to read! Love this!

I love this book for my easily distracted 1st grader. No pictures = no guessing about the story.

I was delighted to see the Merrill learning series is still available for my grandchildren. My own kids benefited tremendously from the books, written in easy steps (depending on the ages) and using both "decoding" methods plus the "sight words." Great books!!
