Scarred by trauma he endured as a child, Dan Torrance has fought to find peace. But that peace is shattered when he encounters Abra, a girl with a powerful gift, known as the “shine.” Review: Masterpiece - Great film! Loved The Shinning and this is a great follow up. It totally got over looked for some reason when it came out but its well worth your time. This is more connected to the film the book as the end of the book is different of the Shinning and this uses that really well. Stephen King himself loves it too. He only sees Ewan McGregor as Danny torrents now. "The Knot" is brilliant and creepy, ruthless in this film. One of my favourite horror films of all time and thats a very high platform for me. Gets more into Danny's Shine of his abilities and others. Masterpiece especially in directors cut version as its 15 or 20 mins longer. Review: Great film to watch again and again. - I love this film. The acting is superb and the story is just as good. This is a film that you don't want to miss a little bit and keeps you glued to watch. I never watched The Shining but this film is sort of continued but the film does explain it very well.

Overall, very very good
MILD SPOILERS I avoided this film for a while. How good could it be? I wasn't a huge fan of The Shining although I remember being terrified by it as a boy. Well, I was wrong. This film is very, very good as a sequel. I would say it is probably as good a sequel to The Shining as Bladerunner 2049 is to Bladerunner. Make of that what you will. Yes, it plods somewhat. At times it feels like a seventies movie which will bore many people. But - guess what - The Shining was practically a seventies movie (made in 1980) and this film manages to evoke that feel and yet feel timeless at the same time. For the MTV and beyond generation who make goldfish laugh of them because of their short attention span - you are going to struggle with this. But if you can force yourself to settle down you'll find deep, decent character development and scenery that looks like art. The bad guys - the True Knot - don't start out that creepy - in fact they just look like a bunch of travelling misfits - but that soon changes. I couldn't watch what they did to one of their victims - as a parent it was very distressing - but by the time things heat up you really feel in your core that they deserve what might be coming to them. By the time the film was in it's third act it suddenly heated up - and the twists came thick and fast. I found myself very excited to see what happened next and despite what others say I thought the ending was very appropriate. I shall read the book next, I think. The little girl was exceptional - I look forward to seeing her in other films. I haven't seen the theatre cut but the directors cut felt complete so I shudder to think what was cut out. This is one to buy.

Continuation of The Shining..
Love it.. not as strong as the OG Shining, but the cast give some great performances.. Rebecca Ferguson acquitted herself, with only one or two moments that didn't land. Ewan McGregor was stellar throughout.. Kyliegh Curran however was good in the early scenes but then awful and brattish for the rest of the movie, which really spoiled the mood in places where it was meant to be serious. If it wasn't for Ewan McGregor's acting and the great plot/dialogue, I think this would have gotten a much lower star rating from me. Cliff Curtis and Carl Lumbly were spot on.. as was Zahn McClarnon. Carel Struycken was very well cast and mixed his unique looks/style with his acting excellently. Makeup wardrobe and special effects were of a high caliber.. with a special mention for set and prop design for later in the movie. Sound design was very.. OG Shining like and on piste for this sequel, but I will note much of the surround could have been improved. Music design was likewise. Overall I was thrilled to see a sequel to the Shining.. and that coloured my view a little.. but not too much.

Where King & Kubrick's world collide
Rebecca Ferguson shines in this impressive adaptation of King's sequel to The Shining, creating a story where King and Kubrick's world collide. Danny is all grown up now and has inherited his father's addictive personality. Seeking redemption for the demons of the past, he forms a relationship with Abra, a child with 'the gift', who is in danger from an ancient and dying clan of vampiric outlaws, feeding on pain and fear rather than blood and headed by the charismatic Rose the Hat, brilliantly played by Rebecca Ferguson, who manages to walk that thin tightrope between kitsch and pathos. As Rose homes in on Abra, she flees with Danny to the Overlook, one of the few places left with creatures more powerful than Rose, taking Kings tale into Kubrick's storyworld and a rousing finale.
