Briggs & Stratton692249 Cylinder Head Gasket Replacement for Models 272916 and 692249

I needed a new head gasket because the compression in my 20-yr old pressure washer engine was too low and the original gasket was delaminating. The local repair shop couldn’t get it but Amazon had it. It didn’t solve all of the compression problems but did increase it by 33%.

Quality seemed fine, but didn't get to use it as I ordered the wrong part.

Turns out this is the right one. No measurements to compare to my engine, so I got lucky. My valve seat came loose. I had to PEEN the head to get it to stay in.... I guess I went over board :) gasket fit right, engine started right up.

Fixed my 12000 series craftsman Briggs mower for another 7 years. Bought an in/pound torque wrench to insure I had my bolts perfect, a small insurance for not taking it apart again. Torque specs are on the Internet and the model of your mower should be stamped on a metal plate on the right hand side if looking at the front of your mower, on my 12000 series at least.

Head gasket replacement was an easy fix putting new life into a 10 year old lawn mower

Gasket blew out after about 6 months and on disassembly it was clear that the multiple layers had de-laminated. Parts of the gasket stuck to the block and parts stuck to the cylinder head. One section was blown right out. Fortunately I saved the old gasket and will reuse it, as it is still all in one piece.

Direct fit on my mower (model info listed on Title Line). If you are going to replace the Gasket, I would advise that you buy several cylinder head screws (Briggs & Stratton Part # 690912) on the same order - also available from Amazon. I torqued-off 2 screw heads while I was removing the Cylinder Head - the stock screws are very cheaply made and the heads come off very easily.

When I received the gasket it was bent but not broken inside its plastic bag. I would suggest the gasket should be shipped between two pieces of cardboard to keep it from being damaged. I installed the gasket with no issues.

Not all parts listed on Amazon as genuine B & S parts are genuine. This one is, and did the job perfectly.
