Protect Your Lap and Your Laptop
Don't be fooled by appearances, this is actually much more than a hunk of plastic. The Lapdesk is a stable, ergonomic platform that holds your laptop in a no-slip grip on your lap while you work. I bought this Lapdesk so I can work on papers and writing for hours from my bed or couch without burning my lap from the exhaust fans on my laptop. The bottom is textured nicely for hugging on to your thighs without digging in, and the top section is a sort of mixture of plastic and rubber that stops your laptop from slipping while readjusting yourself. The surface fits a 17" laptop perfectly and the pull-out mousepad has enough room for a Logitech M305 "mini" mouse to roam freely. My only problem is that the disc drive on your laptop will most likely collide with your mouse while you're using the mouse pad section, but there's no problem around that. Now for the cons. The upper section of plastic feels a little flimsy around the mouse pad region...I can even pull one edge of it up a little bit. It feels sturdy enough as a whole, but this worries me that if it was dropped or bumped roughly it could dislodge it. This area around the mouse pad is the structural weak point, since it has to make room for the mouse pad to slide in. Also, this thing weighs a TON! Despite its looks, it's actually quite solid. This means it can probably take being dropped, but it could be about as heavy as your laptop if you've got a smaller one. This is good too, however, as a heavier lapdesk means it won't slide off your lap, even with smooth pants.Be warned that your experience may vary with full-sized mice, as they may not have as much room to wander on the mouse pad. This lapdesk will definitely not work well with laptops larger than 17". For the price, this item is fantastic!

Truly perfect if it's perfect, almost perfect if it's not: read to find out which...
This is one of those products that might deserves like 4.5 stars relative to the other options but, because there are several very simple minor things that can be done that would have made absolutely perfect, I'm going to give it 4 stars instead of 5.The good:* Lightweight.* Dissipates heat well.* Sits on and sticks to the lap well.* Quality materials.* Clean look.* Solid construction: the slide out mousepad is nice and stable; it doesn't feel cheesy by any means.* It fits a 15" Mac Book Pro snugly perfect; there is literally zero underbite or overbite if you understand what I mean. The not as good:* Adds no depth or height, so your laptop sits negligibly higher than it would if it were sitting directly on your lap, with no ability to manipulate this.* The mousepad is too slim. They should have allowed it to slide out to a full width mousepad while making stable at any stopping point so users could choose a slimmer configuration if desired.* The mousepad is fixed to the right side. It could have been made lefty friendly and USB device friendly by adding a second slide out on the left side. (see below for funny update)* The surface of the mousepad is hard plastic that isn't great for tracktion or even optical; it's like maybe I'm missing something to cover the slide out tray with or something.NOTE to the manufacturer: I love this desk, but don't use the mousepad for a mouse because it's taken up by my ever present USB external hard drive. If a second slide out mousepad had existed not only would this lap desk be left-handed user friendly, it would also accommodate a USB device, typically with the tray only partially open. Furthermore, the laptop desk may even then be useful to sit on top of a desk stand because USB devices are a total pain when a stand is introduced.UPATE: well, I feel daff, I've had this lap desk for weeks and just realized it's completely symmetric: the "right mouse tray" becomes the left one by rotating the desk! I still would ahve liked two trays for my unqiue application, but thought I should update my review to point out my blunder.

Logitech is a true innovator and knows what customers need!!!
I actually use this not for my laptop, but for my keyboard and mouse. I like to be able to sit back in my chair some feet away from my monitor, which makes for a much comfortable typing and computing experience. Although I used to simply put my keyboard in my lap and sit close to the monitor (since I needed a surface for the mouse), I thought it'd be nice to have some kind of platform next to my chair arm or something for my mouse, so I don't have to lean forward on my desk to use the mouse. Lo and behold! Logitech comes out with this product around the time I thought of this idea. It's just enough space for my wireless mouse (Microsoft Mini Explorer bluetrack, btw) and my keyboard. The design is fantastic, nicely compact. Easily portable. Thin and light-weight, but sturdy, which is very important. Logitech gave the mouse area some good thought in design, making sure there was a reasonable edge so that the mouse doesn't slide off of it, and it's lined with rubber to reinforce it. The rubber surface for the laptop/my keyboard is also very good, keeps them from sliding off, too. The only minor issue with the rubber is that it attracts dust and strands of hair easily that could get on it, but that's just how the rubber is and is no fault of Logitech's design. Easily wiped off with wet paper towels. My computing experience is as comfortable as ever! My back feels better and aches less--it'll definitely help your posture if you use it for what I use it for. I'm confident to give this a full 5/5 star rating! If you need something like this, don't hesitate, get it now! I just wish it could be $5-$10 cheaper! :) But hey, it's worth it!
