This is a really great kit! I go open-ocean kayaking (often alone), and when I find a good cove, it's nice to be able to drop the anchor and kick back for a while. There's also been times when I've gotten tired and wanted to rest, but am in a current pulling me in a direction I don't want to go.I did some looking around, and the anchor is the best quality I've seen for grapple anchor. Steel, instead of iron, and fully and thickly powder coated. First thing I did was disconnect the rope from the top of the anchor (look up the "zip tie trick"). I bought a stainless steel U-buckle to attach to the bottom of the anchor, and a few feet of chain leader, then hooked the rope up to the that. It's worked well. It comes in a padded cinch-draw bag, which protects whatever is next to it on the boat from being battered around by the heavy anchor. I like the addition of the buoy on the rope. I don't fish out on the ocean, but I've heard other people say that it's really handy for ocean fishing (the fish are bigger and will easily pull a kayak all over the place, which can be a problem if you're anchored. With the buoy attached to your anchor line, you can just release the anchor line from your boat when you hook a fish, let the fish drag you wherever it wants, and once you've got your fish in the boat or released, you can paddle back to the buoy marking where your anchor is and tie back up to it). I did add a strip of reflective tape around the equator of the buoy. Figured that could help with visibility in some situations. And I plan on adding some tape marks to the anchor line, graduating it, so I know the depth (kinda need to know that to properly set your anchor, and I don't currently have a depth finder on my kayak).And it comes with a free dry bag as well.

I used it the day after I got it to go Kayak fishing. This worked like a charm. I fish in the Tennessee River close to Wheeler and Wilson Dam and even with the currents this anchor held me fast. The dry bag that came with this kept my wallet, keys, and phone dry once I was done even though the my kayak's cubby hole had water in it. I didn't try the anchor in the center of the river but closer to shore the 40 feet was plenty long enough. I'm fixing to go again as soon as I finish writing this, can't beat fresh fish.As for the service from Compass Surf. I think they are one of the best. I love this anchor. I paddle board and often want to stop for a swim. Before having this anchor I have to attach the leash to my wrist which was annoying or keep pushing the board up current so it would float back to me. This anchor is easy to store and keep right on my board for when I need it. I am also happy about it coming with a dry bag you can never have to many. The bad the anchor is in is also good quality and padded so I don’t risk damaging my board. I hope to get another paddle board and I definitely will be getting another one of these anchors so I can go with a buddy and go swimming.

Use this anchor and rope set for my little Sun Dolphin Sportsman Bass Boat and couldn't be happier. Great kit and has everything you need with the exception of a float in case you want to throw out the anchor rope and fight a fish, rather than pull the anchor when you are fighting the fish, This is important when fighting a large fish when you are by yourself. I purchased a small float to put on the end of the anchor line for my set up and have been very happy with this setup.

I use this in my fishing kayak and its worked great so far. I use the dual attachment method with a wire ties and a swivel and it works great. Holds me in place, doesn't twist my anchor line and doesn't get stuck.

Decent powder coating, the storage bag is very thick and great quality, comes with a dry bag. I'm using this with an anchor wizard so I wont be using the supplied rope but it's actually a notch above the average quality as far as typical stiff nylon goes, very supple, I'll repurpose it for sure. The only reason I gave 4 stars and not 5 was one of the "claws" on the anchor is really pitted due to poor casting. Despite that, I'd purchase this again if I needed another.

My kit arrived in the midst of an unusually long, strong and cold rainy season here in California, so I haven't had a chance to try it out yet. When the weather and water warm up, I'm sure it will serve just fine for my small inflatable, a Sea Eagle Packfish7. It will need a good rinsing after being in salt water though, as it is powder coated, not galvanized. I like that it is a well-made product at a good price.

This is the perfect anchor for my 10' raft. It's made well, it sets well and well, I love it. Love how it locks open as well as locking closed for easy storage. The rope is definitely marine grade with a nice connection hook and the float comes in handy to mark your anchor or even mark your rope for others to see. Not only do I like the padded storage bag that it comes with but we get a lot of use out of the DRY BAG that is part of this awesome kit. I am so pleased with this anchor that when my wife bought a huge 8 person float, I bought a second Compass Kayak Anchor Kit. Easy to use, set, retrieve and stow. Thanks Compass Surf!
