OTC 5605 Deluxe Compression Tester Kit with Carrying Case for Gasoline Engines

I'll caveat my review by saying I'm not a professional mechanic. Well, I did have dinner bought for me once after working on a friend's car, so that's sort of like payment. Not sure that qualifies me as a professional mechanic, though.I purchased this kit to work on a friend's car (a different friend, I have at least 4 of them) that had a suspect head gasket issue. I've always wanted a compression tester and this was the perfect reason to buy one. I own other OTC tools and I've been really impressed with them. Along with the other positive reviews here on Amazon, I had no hesitation buying this kit. OTC has another compression tester kit (OTC 5606 Compression Tester Kit) that has fewer hoses, but it's only 10 bucks cheaper so I splurged and got this deluxe-o model.The kit contains all sorts of adapters and hoses so I'm guessing it'll work on just about any engine out there. It even comes with a little spare parts baggy that has extra valves and o-rings which I thought was a pretty nice touch. Kit feels solid and well made, and has a nice case to keep all the parts together.The gauge is covered in rubber molding to help protect it from any whacks and bangs during use and is pretty accurate. For what it's worth, I rigged up a contraption to compare the OTC gauge to the gauge on my air tank and they measured the same at 100psi. At least now I know the OTC gauged measures the same as the cheap gauge on my air tank.For me, buying this kit was sort of like a rite of passage. My tool box is full of all types of wrenches, sockets, ratchets, whirly-gig thingamabobs, etc., but this is my first real troubleshooting tool. You know, the type of thing that most people won't have in their garage. I'm feeling a little giddy.Overall, I'm very happy with this purchase and would recommend it to a friend--or in this case on Amazon, I'd recommend it to total strangers.

Best quality compression tester in my opinion. We got these at my auto school and I got sold real quick to buy this and the leak down tester.Great product overall you get accurate readings and it had all the adapters you need. don’t think twice on a quality item like this

I only used this once on an outboard engine. It worked great. It has a nice case to hold everything and protect the gauge when not in use. This comes with most of the adaptors you will ever need and instructions. I was able to test my engine a lot quicker than I thought as my local marine shop wanted to charge three hours labor. I was done in less than 45 minutes and most of that was figuring this thing out. This product has already paid for itself.

Needed a good compression gauge & found this one. Mechanic I know bought his off the big name tool truck & it's identical to this one, with exception of the gauge face color, & being less than 1/2 of what he paid. Used it about a 1/2 dozen times. Works great, extra rings & valves, & comes in a nice not too big case.Quality control might is why I marked down to 4. When originally received I noticed mine had a gauge with a max reading of 100 psi. Clearly stated on Amazon & other sites was capability to 300psi. I ordered a replacement, sending the original one back, & the replacement came in with the proper gauge. A slight headache but with Amazon Prime policies & super quick shipping I was only set back 1 day.Awesome buy...just check the gauge before you use it :-)

I bought this gauge to test the cylinders in my 95 BMW. Unfortunately the car was not a keeper but this gauge set is. All of the adaptors I think you would ever need. The deep well connector was especially useful, making the set a breeze to use. It was so easy I actually had fun doing it. I just removed the spark plugs from my engine, disabled the fuel pump then screwed the well connector into the cylinder to be tested, popped the gauge on (it has a quick-disconnect) and gave the engine some cranks to get a steady reading. When done reading there is a button to relieve the pressure before disconnecting.I can't really say how accurate the gauge was as I don't have another gauge to compare it to, but I can say that a few of my cylinders tested right on factory spec while others were not. Testing all cylinders 3 times the results were consistent.This will not test for leak down (gauge holds pressure internally) but is a very nice compression tester that I'm proud to keep in my tool kit. I also purchased OTC's 5613 Vacuum kit at the same time. I was slightly disappointed that the compression kit's gauge had a much smaller gauge face but it's still clear and easy to read.
