A Superb Album On LP/CD By ELO (double review)
I initially bought the album ‘A New World Record’ by ELO here on Amazon on 12” Vinyl (pictured) which just blew me away more than my other few ELO Studio Albums plus the pressing of the vinyl is excellent, it’s very clear & it sounds great. Now that would have been my sole copy but my vinyl player doesn’t have a headphone insert & its Bluetooth capability is that really silly I’ll send sounds almost everywhere & to anything but not to headphones so I bought a second copy of the record again here on Amazon on CD (again pictured) so that I could listen in the smaller hours without disturbing others & it meant that I didn’t always have the hassle of getting the Vinyl from its storage box etc, etc.I’ve only got four ELO Studio Albums with the classic ‘Out Of The Blue’ included within those few albums but there’s just something about this album, something different & special that simply captivates me I really rate this album, OK there are a number of Singles on this that are featured on the two ‘Very Best Of Electric Light Orchestra’ albums but to me that just clearly confirms that back in the day before I was born that this as a special record & then there are the none single album tracks which just work, it’s a put on & thoroughly enjoy album for me, I don’t skip a track of the original album maybe the Bonus Tracks tapped on to the end of the CD copy that aren’t really much but besides that it’s just fantastic great quality as in musicianship songwriting etc & on playback performance & that’s on both Vinyl & CD, a great album.

Orchestral Rock
This is a fine album by ELO with all the songs written by Jeff Lynne. Tracks include 'Rockaria', 'Telephone Line', 'So Fine', 'Do Ya' and of course 'Livin' Thing'.Essentially this is the kind of symphonic pop/rock pioneered by the Beach Boys on 'Pet Sounds' and especially The Beatles on 'Sgt Pepper's...'It doesn't quite have a 'God Only Knows' or 'A Day In The Life' to propel it to absolute greatness and Jeff Lynne talented as he is isn't quite a Brian Wilson or a Lennon/McCartney, nevertheless this is a very enjoyable and highly melodic album. I liked every track on it.

The best ELO album
As a teenager ELO was a big influence on me, prior to punk and new wave. This was the first album I got, then I enjoyed exploring the back catalog and kept following them until Time before losing interest.Out of the Blue had received a few outings over the years - my favourite track being the swooping and dramatic Big Wheels - and then I saw the BBC4 documentary on Jeff Lynne which got me interested again. This was the album I decided to buy once more and I can honestly say it touched me deeply to hear most of these songs for the first time since perhaps 25 years ago when I sold off my LPs.This is ELOs finest moment for me, when everything simply clicked in place. Out of the Blue was probably more successful and better known and at the time I preferred it, but in one album here you have the pinnacle of ELO.To me ELO often works best when eschewing rocky numbers and sticking to dramatic strings, upbeat pop songs or the mournful numbers like Telephone Line and Mission.A masterpiece.

ELO's greatest album
Every song is ear candy as there are no 'throw away' songs on this album. Shangri-La is a hidden gem with the last three minutes of this song being hauntingly beautiful. Telephone Line started my love affair with ELO back in 1976.
