Great Little Engine With Big Power; for hours of fun!
I bought the Hape Railway Battery Powered Train for my kids, and it has quickly become the star of there wooden train set. The build quality is exactly what you’d expect from Hape—solid, durable, and kid‑friendly. The motor runs smoothly in both forward and reverse, and the working front and rear lights add a really fun touch during play. One thing I especially appreciate is the compatibility. It works perfectly on all our existing wooden tracks and the magnetic connectors make it easy for my kids to attach their other train cars without frustration. Battery life has also been surprisingly good considering how much they uses it/leave it on. The engine has enough strength to pull multiple cars without slowing down, and it hasn’t shown any signs of wear after countless crashes and tumbles. Overall, this is an excellent upgrade for any wooden train setup. Durable, fun, and well-designed—highly recommended for any little train lovers!

Great little train
This little train engine is shockingly good for the price. It is solid and obviously well-made. And its motor is powerful. It can easily pull a dozen cars, even up inclines. The headlight is a charming touch. My 3-year-old grandson finds his wooden train tracks far more interesting to play with since we added this train engine to the set.

Great little train. Buy with confidence
Wow, the hardest working train ever. I bought this for my grandbaby who inherited the entire train collection plus recently thrifted train table. He gets up and goes to the train table first thing in the morning and he asks this mighty little train on. It has a great power and the light comes on when it's going forward and the light is off when it goes backwards. Love, love this little well made train. Great price, too! The little hick up of the train is not the trains fault. The track was not linked up tightly. Great size, noise is rather soothing. Amazing traction and just fun for everyone. Buy this with confidence.

Nice battery-powered toy locomotive
This gets the job done. It's a little annoying having to use a screwdriver to change the AAA batteries, but I guess that's a safety feature to protect children, rather than a design flaw. I won't fault them for that. It occasionally loses grip when trying to pull cars behind it up a hill but, otherwise, it does pretty well. It's got forward and reverse which my toddler seems to struggle with when trying to turn it off, only to miss the OFF position and switch it into the opposite direction. Time will tell if that is something he'll overcome. Overall, it's a much cheaper, yet still functional, alternative to BRIO, which is what's most important.

Hape Engines meets Lego Classic! Those bricks to use!
Hape Red Engine is second only to Hape Brave Little Engine. It can make most ramps with fresh Battery and is far superior to all other, except Hape Brave Train. When paired with Legos, perfect! The 20x20 stud baseplate is a perfect size to make wooden train tracks station for Thomas the Train or Brio or melissa and Doug tracks. 6 studs open per track. Also allows for the classic sized 2x2,2x4,2x6,2x8 legos blocks bricks to be used up. Start the ramp, 1 lego classic brick tall plus a 2x 12 stud plate, then 2 bricks tall, then 3, etc. Focus on the green bricks at the bottom to see how level 1 gradually ramps up Second and 3rd levels are 7 bricks tall. If you use the strictly briks stackers, stackable towers, plus 2 lego bricks to get 7 legos tall, you make the spiral mountain or support columns in the train station, diy handmade. Start off using 1 brick support, then a 2 brick support, until you get to 7 briks tall. A strictly briks stacker is 5 bricks tall already! Best part, unlike the large molded plastic bridges of wooden track systems, using legos, strictly briks, etc means these blocks can be disassembled and reused, remade, over and over. We used the SureTrack clips but prefer good old painters masking tape to secure the wooden tracks together to limit child earthquakes from breaking the entire structure. We have the Hape little engines to be the strongest and most capable of climbing the ramps, both the red engine and the brave little engine.

The little engine that could
I was tired of our old Thomas the train toys that had no power or traction. This little engine is strong enough to pull a number of cars up small hills and do many laps. It's strong and it works. Simple.

Can pull 3 train cars up the hill
Our 5 year old grandson loves playing with the large train track at our house. We have lots of small wooden train cars for this type of track and my husband thought a battery powered engine would be a fun addition. I read the reviews on this one and knew ahead of time that the engine would pull about 3 cars up an incline. And that is what we found also. It chugs along pretty slowly, but we are not in any hurry and that gives the little guy enough time to run around to another place and change the track direction each time, which he really enjoys doing. When the 5 year old is at school the little sister plays with this too even though she is not precise enough to get it on the track most of the time. This little engine gets a work out and can handle some toddler abuse from the little person. I would recommend this and purchase again.

Gift of the year for the nephews
Ever since this product was unwrapped, my nephews have been obsessed and thrilled with this battery powered train. It has held up well so far and can even pull cars up hills if it isnt too crazy steep. I recommend using rechargeable battery's as they can handle the load a bit better and last longer overall. Awesome product
