Legacy Deluxe Chess/Checkers Set

Great value for the price. Pieces fit nicely into the wooden box. It seems quite durable. Kids and adults have enjoyed it.

Chess has been my favorite board game since I was a child and I have collected chess sets as a hobby over the years. When I selected this one I expected it to be on par with typical portable wooden sets which are usually cheaply made. This one was a pleasant surprise in that it is a step up from most portable wooden sets I have seen and used. This is a fairly straightforward set. The case is a clamshell design that folds open into the board. There are magnets in the rim of the underside of the board to hold it closed when the set is not in use, ands the manufacturer did a decent job of concealing the contacts (though they are visible if you look for them). The squares on the board are smooth and while the seams between the squares can be felt when you run your hand along the board, the seams are smooth and are less pronounced that what I have seen on some other boards. The pieces are decently made though are nothing special. They are machine cut pieces and have been smoothed, sanded and varnished. They are weighted nicely and have felt on the bottom to avoid scratching the board. They’re a fairly average design but they look good and are very recognizable. The main feature of this set is that it is larger than most fold-out boards I have seen and used. While this might not be the best for packing and portability, I really like the size. I am less likely to knock over pieces accidentally and I can see what’s going on a little better. This is not just a chess set but includes wood chips for playing checkers as well. The chips are small and are nothing of note but they are sufficient. I really like this chess set and will use it as my main travel set moving forward. I like the size of the board, the feel of the pieces and the overall quality. There are better sets out there but they cost more. There are less expensive sets too, and the chances of finding one that is of the same quality as this one for less is small.

My oldest son is really into chess, and he wanted a set he could take with him while we travel that was a bigger size than what we currently had. I'm used to seeing sets like this one in a smaller size - so we were happy that this one is significantly bigger without being too huge and bulky. This is a decent quality set for the price, although the pieces are rather plain - but we really liked how the chess pieces are stored securely inside of it. The entire ensemble is fairly sturdy, yet still lightweight enough to take on the road without feeling too heavy. Nice quality for the price point - it gets two thumbs up from us!

Beautiful and appears well made! Appears made of quality materials. Thick, durable solid wood game board that fold to serve as a game storage box. The box closes well and evenly. The box holds the game pieces in velvety casing. The wooden chess and checker pieces are beautiful and appear made well as well. It comes in a modernly styled box. It would make a nice gift. My kids and I got to playing it right away! Classic game set that looks like it will last and be played for ages (as long as we are careful not to lose the pieces🤞).

Why a 2 star rating for a chess board? 1 star would be that you somehow couldn't play chess on it, but you definitely can. 2 stars is that this works but I'm seriously considering if I want to buy a similar product to replace it. The checkers are definitely smaller than you'd expect and at least for me, the white checkers don't fit that snugly in the holder. This means when I take the chess pieces out and turn it over to play chess, the checkers fall out. The chess pieces are really annoying to put in and take out. On the positive side, this does mean that they're less at risk of falling out when you play checkers. From a quality standpoint one of the pawns was missing the felt at the bottom although that doesn't really matter that much in practice.

Visually, this is a very nice set. While the chess pieces are somewhat crude (not detailed, but not unattractive either), they are shiny and a good size for the board. The board itself is more of a matte finish, which is nice because it makes the pieces stand out a bit better. For the chess pieces, they go inside the folded up board in a snug little spot when not in use and for travel. Now...the checkers part is lacking. The pieces are kind of thin and cheap feeling, and they don't actually go back into the case securely, so they end up rattling around, which is unfortunate because it's probable that they're going to get lost. Overall, a nice set, but I would've liked to see a couple improvements: a bit better quality checker pieces, some kind of magnet or latch to keep the folded board closed more securely, and a way to keep the checker pieces from jingling around in the case, eagerly waiting to fall out and get lost. For the price it's not a bad deal, but if you could find a similar set without the issues...well, it may be better to take the alternate route. That said, I wouldn't be displeased to have this set! I also like that it came with instructions that were actually readable in English - that's getting rare these days.

I have not played chess in a few years and when I saw this set, I figured that this was the perfect time to get some strategy games going with my son. The case which doubles as a rich playing surface on one side, offers conformed storage of these high quality pieces on the inside folds which prevents them from moving and getting scratched up. Both chess and checker pieces are made of solid wood and the chess pieces, which really look nice, have felt bottoms for easy movement without scratching the board surface. This set also looks great set up on an end table as decor or a conversation piece when not in use. It really looks great! Well worth the money and a quality set that I really hope to keep in the family for generations to come!

Je ne dirais vraiment pas que c'est un échiquier de luxe. L'échiquier a des tâches, des pions aussi..les coussinets en dessous des pièces sont pas centrés. Il est très dure d'enlever les pièces du rangement et il s'est décollé lors de la première ouverture du boîtier. J'étais decue. La grandeur est bonne et les pièces sont lestés.

Very disappointed in this product. The board has a defect one one of the sides. Be sure the inspect the board properly when you buy it

The chess board is cracked, the white pieces have 2 queens and no king, the ponds are super hard to come off it’s socket…it’s not even worth $15 Very unhappy, it’s crap.
