Acme Thunderer Whistle 60.5, Small, High, Loud

Much louder than those backpack buckle whistles. Both the backpack whistle and this one were audible at 1/4 mile. This whistle was imo 70dB while the backpack whistle was around 55dB at that range. Just my opinion from experience with dB. Still want to test this at ranges of up to 1 mile & possible 1.5 miles. Pros: -First time you blow this thing hard (tongue blocking air hole - then quickly remove) - you will likely hurt your ears. I learned the hard way. Just a warning.... it can be loud with assertive blows. -blowing takes minimal lung capacity (I have Asthma) Cons: -I have extremely sensitive ears (yes I hear most electronics & nearly all tvs and chargers) ----> Meaning I had to cut the metal keyfob ring out and replace it with rope to avoid excess noise ----> hole was too small for 5040H paracord - likely could be drilled out ----> used neon yellow mason line instead -Was whistling in a PA state forest this past weekend around people & it did not seem to immediately grab their attention or piss them off. I want a whistle where people instinctively are like: "OMG WHAT IS GOING ON?! SOMEONE COULD BE LOST - LET'S FIND THEM!!" Having said that I was approx. 100ft from said individuals & my hiking partners were laughing. It could've been the vibe. I encourage you to test every part of your survival equipment. I will likely fail to post back after further testing unless the whistle spontaneously combusts. Apologies in advance.

A great tool. I immediately realized that it is at a much higher level than conventional whistles. It is very loud and robust. I'm sure it will last me for many years.

This is a great whistle. The 4866 thunderer is a metal whistle that is made in England. I first brought this whistle over 8 years ago. It is a loud, light weight and very durable product. I use this whistler on a frequent basis. Over the years, it did get some chips around the edges. However, it still works as though I brought it yesterday. I have major complaints on this product except for the little chips. I just brought a new one to include in our emergency survival kit that I am putting together. The price on Amazon is much cheaper than what I paid for initially at the retal store. I would definitely recommend this for any looking for a great whistle at a good price.

Works great. It's loud and distinctive. My only complaint is that the chrome started flaking off relatively quickly. This doesn't affect the function, but mine doesn't look nice and shiny anymore.

This is the gold standard for whistles for lifeguards, officials, referees and coaches. I have a 30 year-old Acme Thunderer and it still looks and works like new. Excellent sound, nice weight and a very durable whistle. Some have said that whistles with a pea inside often fail over time. I have used this whistle for decades, often in a humid swimming pool environment, and the pea has never gotten stuck or broken. Pea whistles have a more pronounced sound that travels farther and really gets attention. The Acme Thunderer sounds exactly the way a whistle should sound: loud, clear and decisive. The Acme Thunderer is the best!

I've been looking for a whistle like this for a long time. I had one very similar to it when I was a summer camp counselor about 10 - 12 years ago and have been looking for a solid replacement. It's lightweight, super loud, and is perfect for outdoor activities or getting rid of annoying telemarketers. It will definitely get the attention of anyone in the area

Ich kann diese Pfeife wirklich empfehlen. Es ist leider selten geworden, dass man für relativ wenig Geld echte Qualität bekommt. Die Pfeifen von ACME sind so ein Relikt aus der guten, alten Zeit. Sie ist unfassbar laut, so laut, dass es in den Ohren schmerzt, wenn man stark reinpustet, für die Größe relativ schwer, was sie noch wertig er wirken lässt und sieht dazu noch gut aus. Außerdem ist sie eine der kleinsten Pfeifen die man so kaufen kann und fällt am Schlüsselbund kaum auf. Aufgrund der kleinen Bauform ist sie auch relativ schrill. Ein etwas tiefere Ton wäre mir persönlich lieber, gibt aber natürlich keinen Abzug in der Gesamtwertung.
