Good controller
I use this for my Skywatcher AZ-GTi mount. It came already updated with the latest, version 6, firmware. I imagine they all are shipping like that but you should verify that for yourself. Functions just fine. I use this mount and controller in conjunction with my ASI Air Plus astronomy computer from ZWO.Clear Skies

Product is USED, not NEW
What I received was just the controller and two cables lose in the shipping box. No manufacture packaging or instructions of any kind. Not a NEW product. Returned.

Works for Sky-Watcher Mounts
Works as expected. Bought as an upgrade to an older mount and to use with an AZ-GTi. Get to know the manual and work flow and everything is great. I've tracked 2 minute exposures once properly polar aligned with a 2 or 3 start alignment using the hand controller.

It does work, spongy buttons, erratic direction buttons behavior
I find the Sky-Watcher V5 Hand Controller more convenient to use (at least conceptually) than their smartphone app for controlling the mount. The buttons feel very spongy when pressed - the tactile feel is very poor.The main reason for my overall rating is that the direction buttons (especially the Down button) function erratically/inconsistently. More than half the time when pressed nothing happens (no response, no movement). Of the relatively large button surface, the Down button only seems to respond sometimes when pressed on the left side of the button. But since it has not been responding, if one presses it many times, it will often overshoot moving once it has starts slewing (which necessitates slewing in the opposite direction). This poor behavior does occur with the other 3 direction buttons, but at a much lower frequency rate.Unless I got a defective unit, I would not buy this again.

Like others, not a new product, no instructions, just randomly shoved in a box.
Update: It is working, I was able to update the software. All is well. Still concerning that it didn't come with a manual and in a random box...Haven't tested it yet, but now that I read other reviews (hey it was a mixture, I had a 50/50 chance of a new one, right?) I may update this if it really works, but not really too hopeful.

Must enter date and time with each use
Since this has no internal battery to keep track of time, each time the mount is powered on you must enter the date and time. Not convenient. At least the location is stored. The mobile app proved to be more user friendly.

Difficult and sketchy
I thought this would be easier to maneuver my scope - wrong! The buttons are so spongy, and the "down" button only worked 1/4 of the time and then it would overshoot. The menu is cumbersome. I suppose if you simply can't get a tablet or a smart phone, it may be okay, but I'd highly suggest diving into a $40 tablet instead of this.

Purchased new but received an open box item.
It was clear as can be that this item had been opened before. My guess is it is a return that was returned for a reason! The reason being that it does not work at all. I was sent a broken return.
