Sofia Coupe 12-Piece Stoneware Dinnerware Set, Service for 4 – Black Plates and Bowls

I love these dishes! They are gorgeous and the color is deep and the pics just don't do them justice. I searched for just the right set for 2-3 years, found these, added them to my wish list and dithered some more because of some of the reviews. I got them and liked them so much I bought another set because I break stuff and wanted spare parts. The thing is they are so sturdy that I haven't even chipped one piece!! I dropped a bowl today, it went flying, and it didn't break or chip or anything! Seriously, not one thing I've dropped on this floor hasn't broken, bent, chipped, whatever...until now. I love the lipped plates because, aside from the cool factor, I eat in my big easy chair so no spillage. The shape of the bowl makes it so easy to hold. I've had these dishes for months now and they look brand new. I wouldn't hesitate to buy from Gibson again if, unlikely, I need to get new dishes.

After something like 25 years using the light colored set, I was down to three plates and two of those had cracks more than halfway through. They are Pfaltsgraff stoneware and have served me (literally) well, so I decided to go with more stoneware. I chose these and another set by Gibson (Kyoto) because they were such a needed change from the set I had used for so long - and I am so glad I did! I also chose these because there are no cups and saucers, which only took up room in my cabinet. These are the right sizes, the colors (blue top, black bottom) are wonderful, the matte finish and the bottom ridges so close to the edges make handwashing a breeze. No slippage with soapy water, which is great. The bowls are pretty cool too, with their shape and capacity. But due to the shape, stacking all four together may exceed the height in some cabinets, like mine. So, it's two stacks instead of one. There were a few minor blemishes in the finish of some of the dishes and one of the smaller plates doesn't sit perfectly level on a flat surface, but no biggie for me. As for durability and whether the glaze will hold up for another 25 years, it's way too early to say. But they feel and sound substantial, and since I only hand wash and won't put them in the oven, I expect many years from them.

I searched for awhile and read several reviews before choosing and purchasing these dishes. There are some things I really like about them. They’re nice and heavy and I love the side ridge on the plates. I also love how sturdy the bowls are, they won’t tip easily if at all. Sadly there are some cons. They are a very dull white almost heather gray (and I’m so sick of gray). One of the smaller plates came chipped which was disappointing. I waited a few months to write my review because I wanted to see if they would show marks after use, I see a couple but nothing terrible and my husband isn’t a delicate person. LOL. They stack fairly well onto open shelving but they don’t fit in my wooden dry rack so they are constantly falling over after being washed. Over all I would probably rate them a 3.75.

I was a little nervous based on the reviews that I would have broken dishes but all the pieces were packaged well and in tact when they arrived. It's a very nice stoneware set, feels heavy and sturdy and it's microwave & dishwasher safe. I love the shape as well with the raised sides on the plates and the bowls have flat bottoms that are more stable because I tend to be clumsy.

The red on black color scheme and the steep edges gives these dishes an interesting, unique look. The dishes I received look exactly like the photos. They match very well with my matte black silverware. I'm very pleased with how these look. The dishes are packed efficiently in cardboard boxes with cardboard padding. I bought 3 sets (12 of each dish) and none were damaged or broken on arrival. As with every set of ceramic dishes I've seen a few of these have a surface imperfection such as a tiny dimple or bump. I compared it to my previous set of dishes from a different well known, popular brand and these had fewer. I noticed them as I did the initial inspection but they do not at all detract from the attractiveness of the dishes. The bowls are not nearly as wide as the bowls in my previous set of dishes so I assumed they would not hold as much. But because these bowls don't taper toward the bottom like my old ones it turns out they hold about the same amount. I really like that these can be bought without cups / mugs. I already have multiple sets of coffee mugs that I prefer and it's nice to not have to pay for something I don't need. All in all I'm very happy with these dishes. Exactly what I wanted.

These came in undamaged and we'll packaged. They do make a little bit of noise when you use them as they are a matte finish, no surprise there, and I've had worse honestly, and this set replaces that one. I love the weight and look of these dishes and cups. What the cups seem to lack in height they make up for with their girth. Same goes for the bowls, they have a lower profile, even when stacked for smaller spaces, but hold just as much as a normal bowl would due to the girth. The plates all have a lip on them, so that you could put things like sauces and gravy on them without worry of it running off your plate, or needing to use a bowl to compensate for a flat plate. I'm really excited to show these for my next dinner party. I bought the matte black 8 service set. Also, they stack well, even though in my picture they are just sat on the counter from out of the box.

We wanted a new dinnerware set for hosting family over the holidays, when I saw these I loved the colour so much I decided to buy 2 sets even though the price was abit higher then what I would have liked to pay, they arrived very well packaged with no broken pieces, no chips/ cracks, perfect condition, they feel very well made and look great.
