A great spray gun for a first-timer
This is my first spray gun and so far it seems to be very well built. All the materials are brass and/or steel and the tolerances for threading and dials appear to be very tight. Some of the nuts that hold it together are a really tight from the factory and are easy to mar when you are taking it apart for cleaning the first time but beyond that I've not had any issues.Apart from the build quality, the best thing about this gun is that it needs a lower CFM than many other guns—it's one of the main reasons I choose it. I've found it works with a small 3 gallon Craftsman compressor I already had for air tools. Having enough CFM was my biggest worry but I can spray quite a bit of material before the compressor kicks on. For small things it should work well. The material cup is mounted on the side which is deceptive from the photo but I've found that to be a huge benefit. You can rotate the cup so you can spray vertically if you want.FWIW I've sprayed shellac on a guitar so far as the sealer, and plan to shoot lacquer over that very soon. It lays down very even and all the adjustments appear to work as intended.

Buy a sprayer from Harbour Freight
Buy something of equal quality from Harbour Freight. They are way cheaper and work just as well.

Three Stars
Could not get off the lid to the cup.

Lid is impossible to take off without ruining it!
Lid is impossible to take off without ruining it! Come to find out the lid does not screw off. It pops off, so you have to pry it off. We bent it trying to screw it off with the ribbing. Unreal. It is poorly designed. The rest of the gun is great, though. I am giving it a poor rating, though. Now I have a gun that's useless because the lid is very difficult to get on and off and leaks now that it's bent. Garbage. Also, I think the cup is aluminum. It says brass in one place above, stainless steel in another, and it feels like aluminum.
