A must-read for all hiring managers
Hire on a WHIM introduces a concept for hiring high calibre candidates that is simple to understand and easy to follow. As a relatively new line manager, I read Mr. Miller's book before making my first hiring decision a year and a half ago and was able to extend an offer with confidence following the criteria outlined in his book; the candidate proved to be an excellent addition to the team. I have since shared the book with my boss and others in my company.Hiring the right individuals is critical to building highly effective teams and Mr. Miller's book outlines a workable and reliable formula for doing that. I would strongly recommend this book to both new line managers and seasoned ones, and even those on the other side of the hiring process looking for a job.

Surprisingly a good, quick read well worth the time & money spent
I'm not a big fan of books on hiring. Typically, they seem to be written from the hyper-politically correct human resource perspective & I'm running a business where my folks are paid to deliver results, not on their HBDI score.I read the book, with reservations, based on a recommendation of a business leader I respect. This book was a pleasant surprise. The book doesn't offer any profound, "knock-your-socks-off" revelations. Instead it does a fantastic job of giving structure & a naming sequence to thoughts you probably already have.I found the book most helpful for me as I explained to others what I was looking for in a candidate.Working for a Fortune 100 company, panel interviews are the norm. Prior to an interview, I can give the panel a short succinct list of qualities I am looking for in the person we hire. It not only gives a framework for the panel as they listen to the candidates answer the questions but also provides specific touch points for discussion of the candidates performance in the interview. Also, asking for stories from the candidate's life pushes them past the "stock" answers that they most likely studied prior to the interview.I first used WHIM in this manner about 6 months ago. I made a hire based on the results and couldn't be happier with the hire we made.Additionally, this work can be useful establishing common framework for evaluating current employee's performance.Well done.

Excellent HR resource
Excellent resource for interviewing candidates. It does what it says: it enables the interviewer to get information, actually stories from the candidate about their past. I found out many important details about the candidate's life that was not on their resume: past work experience, their initiative, ability to overcome, their work ethic, their level of humility, how they handled difficult situations, how they treat those in authority over them and coworkers in past employment situations, etc. It was remarkable to see the answers unfold before me by just asking the right questions and knowing what I was looking for. It has enabled our management team to get the information we haven't been able to get in the past to see how emotionally mature, stable, and really see a candidate's character. I completed the book in 3 days (my time) and applied what I learned in four interviews that first week...very telling results. Absolutely the best book I've read on interviewing to get the results we've always needed! And while I was reading the book, I realized what the emloyeess were lacking that we have discharged over the past few years. "If I had known then what I know now," we would not have hired them. Expect much less problem employees now that we have the tools to weed out the wrong type of people and confirm the right kind of people of our envirnment! Thank you Garrett Miller for sharing these awesome tools!

Simple yet very informative. Awesome book
I have known Garrett for a long time. About a month ago, I saw him and he reminded me of a very good book for hiring and interviewing.... (this one). He has been coming to my family's restaurant since I was a kid and he has always been a good, genuine guy.Now that I am a college graduate pursuing a full time job in the financial field, this book was exactly what I needed. After reading this I have a much better idea of what managers tend to (or should) look for in a candidate. Not only that, but how to handle an interview as well. It teaches the reader to think from both sides of the interview process to see where all parties are coming from. What I like most is how this book tells everything through a story- which makes it much more relatable and a lot easier for the reader to see what is going on, and WHY. This book is simple and very easy to understand. I recommend this to all hiring managers and kids who are looking for a full time job post-graduation.Thank you Garrett!!
