great read
If you like the good guys playing rough with the bad guys you’ll love this book. Tons of action and drama. It’s fast paced and hard to put down once you’ve started reading it. Almost super human but still plausible the main character runs through life at a dizzy pace. I recommend this book.

Pretty Darn Good
One of the problems for me with this genre is believability. There was some of that with this storyline, Harry Bauer was a one man wrecking crew for the most part; but he was also a very interesting character who was audacious if nothing else. More of a bull in the china shop approach to things, than a Jason Bourne character. So, the book for that reason as well as a fairly tight storyline this was engaging as well as an interesting book... you just never knew what Harry was going to next. One point that the author made that was down right silly was he had Harry buying a suppressor in Arizona along with some other weapons from a gun shop. Nope, don't think so, not in this country and not in an afternoon. Outside of that, there wasn't anything too much over the top, except that Harry is one lucky guy with a heck of a right cross. Consider this as a 4.3 star rather than a lowly 4.0. Looking forward to the next in the series.

Brain Candy .... Mmmm' good!
This season, I've been reading a ton of LT Ryan, Baldacci, Thor, Koontz, Stinnett and Tripp Ellis while mending a back surgery and a bum shoulder. Not aging well enough, I suppose -- but to the point: I had run out of many of the series I've been following over the Covid era and beyond so I happened to download one that had been popping up on my Kindle Unlimited wall for ages. Blake Banner's Harry Bauer series.I would like to personally thank whatever algorithm runs the damn recommendations, as I started this bad-boy (pun?) around coffee time and finished it before cocktail hour last Thursday. Mr. Banner writes like I talk to my buds and to myself when chattering away in my home office -- in spare but important prose and in a great flow that simply is designed to put you in the hero's (again ...?) head. A head, that is attached to a working, highly skilled ex-soldier and working class hero - and written in a fashion which will in itself gain the reader's empathy for a dude who commits despicable and heinous acts against truly bad guys and evil cabals. If you need to philosophize about the reason such guys exist at all, this kind of fiction might not be for you. But -- if like me you have seen the utter folly of fighting wars for all the right reasons and understand how sick most politicians, Administrative State bosses and Generals are as they enable the very worst of humanity while stepping all over we Deplorables -- and if you enjoy seeing your "betters" get their due comeuppance -- then tune into Banner's Harry Bauer and enjoy the ride.Just try this first outing and you'll know immediately whether or not this is for you. This is the type of hero/anti-hero interaction that anyone who enjoys tough-guy prose and well-written situational & fast-paced thriller fiction will really enjoy. No one involved is looking down their nose or punching below their weight class (either author OR protagonist here) but instead simply tells a wonderful tale while introducing amazingly cool and utterly evil characters that carry the story quickly and efficiently to a (mostly) logical conclusion. Those of us who read and love this kind of fiction understand.Hey - I want to BE Harry, but I'll settle for meeting him and reading his exploits, and hoping that Banner keeps him around for many years to come. I would love to see what this protagonist does when my side of the political fence is back in power in 2022-24. Very cool read, Highly Recommended.

Sheer poison
We all know a cobra is a very deadly snake. Much like Harry Bauer turned out to be after eight years as a SAS operative. A very lethal one.And now ignominiously dismissed.Back in New York he struggled to find a proper job. Then, after a rather deadly engagement Harry got introduced to the Cobra.No. This time this Cobra is a rather secretive organisation where Harry's deadly skills fit right in.And mankind acquires a new super hero. Sort off. And he is sheer poison.Hats off to author Blake Banner for this very fast paced action thriller that tends to raise heart palpitations every chapter in Dead of Night.Enjoy.

Great series
I’m super impressed with this author. He is very descriptive (a little too much occasionally), but his writing is excellent. It’s far better than you get with most books like these. The stories are interesting and the characters well-developed. Definitely give this series a try. (I’m on #5 and every book is engaging and unique). I’m very happy I found this author.

average at best
It was okay, a little repetitive and in need of some serious editing and fact checking but interesting enough to try the next book. Very fast read, primarily due to the lack of substance. IN short, the jury is still out.Though the author is proud of his “rate of writing”, perhaps taking a little more time will result in a better, more finished product.

intriguing and fast paced.
Good idea and nice addition of humor.I read straight through until the last setup. Not sure what tipped me off as to what was going to happen but almost considered not finishing.I think that I will read the next book to see if the main character has more to him.He is fun to watch but for me, a series about him will need his character to have more layers than the point and shoot.

Suspension of disbelief
It's a great book, the first of a great series. The hero is a James Bond on steroids and if you want to enjoy the stories you have to start to believe that everything is possible. That is "suspension of disbelief".

Gripping read
First of Blakes books that I have read, and pleased I did. A familiar, and favourite, genre and very engaging. Looking forward to reading the next installment of Harry Bauer, and pleased to have discovered a new Jack Reacher, but clearly better as he was SAS!Please do continue to write more of the same Blake, and I will keep reading. Fans of action, thrills, and many turns, a series not to be missed.
