I have an old sink area, can I just sit the hose in the sink for the waste water to flow out? Ir do I need to fit it in a waste pipe?

You can let the hose waste from the dishwasher sit in the sink. I do so with mine. It also has a small suction pad on the hose if you want it to sit a specific way for optimum drainage.

Do I need to use dishwasher salt and cleaning agent to clean out dishwasher and how often?

I don't use salt, as a smaller dishwasher. But I do buy the little bottles of dishwasher liquid every so often. You tip upside upside down in machine. Run on an empty cycle. Cleans and smells nice too. I do when needed. It's a great dishwasher. Hope this helps.
