Lt. Col. Ajit Bhandarkar was my uncle, my dad's first cousin. I grew up knowing how close my dad (Col. (Retd.) Pradeep Bhat) Sudhir bappa and Ajit bappa (bappa = uncle / chacha in Konkani) were. He was martyred when I was just 11 years old and I remember a man who was very sweet and who had a reputation for honesty, sincerity and uprightness. But it was through this book that I got a more detailed look at the man who has been an enigma my whole life. I am glad that Shakunthala pachhi took up this initiative to take us on this journey through Ajit bappa's life and service time. I feel honoured that I am a part of this family.

This book gives insight into the life of Lt Col Ajit V Bhandarkar and his family. He was loved by many people and they have nothing but good things to say about him. He was smart, loving and compassionate but most importantly the thing that impressed me the most about Ajit sir is the fact that he always went ahead of his team and stood at the front of the team to protect them. As the bible says in John 15:13, Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one's life for his friends. Ajit sir sacrificing his life for us is the highest form of love and honour that he has shown to this country. This makes me proud of our soldiers and martyrs. Jai Hind.
