Beautiful and poignant yet romantic
The courage and bravery of Nancy Wake is so beautifully well worded and the romance between her and Henri warms the heart. The humour between her, Hubert, Dennis and the others shows that this is how they kept themselves going during the war. What a truly remarkable woman. So glad I got a chance to read her story. Thank you for writing this brilliant book 😀

A beautifully unfolding, spy, thriller
The characters are rich, and the writing filled my head with detailed scenes of a gritty time. And like many of the people in the story, I too fell in love with the main character.

Gripping Read
Really enjoyed this book. Fantastic gripping story, well written in a fluid easy way maintaining interest every single page. Generally not keen on stories with multiple time lines but here it works really well with one time line concentrating on Nancy Wake helping (well, much more than help really) the French Resistance in1944 and another time line starting in the early 1930's on how she got to do that. The time lines eventually 'meet' to create a complete amazing awe inspiring picture. At the end of the book is an interesting chapter by the author on how she came to write the story and the lengthy research she undertook. She admits to some poetic licence so there are fictional passages but they do not detract from the overall story nor lessen it's impact. What an amazing woman Nancy Wake was. This story would make a very good film!

Excellent book
Fascinating story . I had never heard of Nancy Wake before but her life was so inspiring that I couldn’t stop reading until the end of the book. I am from Marseille and all the descriptions of this town in the book rang a bell although it isn’t the same city at all nowadays . Thank you Ariel for these moments of great reading . I highly recommand this book .

Wow!
Wow!!! A few too many later than intended nights reading this book because I wanted to know what happened next. Was inspired by the strength, tenacity, vulnerability and determination of the heroin, Nancy. While a fictional work, the connection to the real heroine; insight into the horrors faced by all at that time and the sacrifices made to stand up to evil has left a huge impression on me.
