Doesn't find many channels
Didn't find any of the stations. Using same antenna my hauppauge 850 got 22 stations while this didn't get any stations. Tuner must not be very sensitive. I scanned multiple times and still got crappy reception.

Memorex DTV converter, my review
I decided on the this Memorex not knowing what I would find. But decided to give it a try after I heard horrible stories of the Access HD converter box sold at rite aid. This one was also there , so I chose this one instead. I'm glad I did. Ofcourse I was also skeptical on this since It was a Memorex brand name, and my first 'Memorex' electronic.I used the coupon got home and tried it out. The first thing I noticed the casing was made of mostly metal except the front (which has the power and the up and down buttons). The back had coaxal rf input and outputs and the yellow white and red output. So I hooked up my very cheap 7.99 rca brand rabbit ear and after following the setup menu, I started scanning. With the rabbit ears I got like 20 digital channels that came in. They came in crystal clear , I was and still am very impressed with the picture clarity , DVD quality picture on my old analog sharp tv set of over 20 years. Now this little box had some features that I didn't know were available to dtv converter boxes. Like for example, CC = closed captioned, sleep timer of up to 4 hours, channel signal meter, tells you wether its 480i, 720p or 1080i. A limited guide which tells you the info of what you're watching and what comes up next. Parental controls and even 3 favorite lists. It also has aspect ratio to choose, either widescreen, cut up or full screen. It also comes with a sony look-alike remote (I call it a Sony look alike remote because of that green power button on the black and grey remote). It also has Audio Language feature, (like SAP) if its available you can hear the program in Spanish or French for example. Also has some other features. The remote also has a volume up/down control. So for $25 after coupon use, to me its worth every penny. I just wish I could hook it up to the roof antenna and get the more distant channels. So with just using the rabbit ears ( a cheap rca rabbit ear antenna) I was able to pick up most if not all of my 'local' digital channels. Including all of the pbs channels. I know if I used the roof antenna , I'd get even more - and what I got now is more than what I get from Directv locals and the picture quality is even better somehow. Maybe because Directv (or Dish Network) locals are too compressed. So as my first DTV converter box, I give it an A.

Not recommended.
My favorite thing about this converter box is the 'List' feature on the remote that allows me to create and navigate through favorites lists of channels. The picture quality is decent, but otherwise, it's not that good. The box itself only has three buttons (Power, Channel Up and Channel Down), so if you lose the remote, you might as well get another (better) box. Powering the unit on, with the remote or the button on the box, doesn't work half the time, but surprisingly, it turns off with no trouble. The box freezes occasionally, at least once a month, but I only watch a couple hours a day.I wouldn't use this if I didn't get it for free. It works well enough converting digital to analog and the picture quality is nice enough that I don't need something else, but I don't think I would buy one.

Memorex MVCB1000 is Junk
We purchased a Memorex MVCB1000 early on, set it up, and waited for the stations to go digital. Now that they have, we find that the remote sticks and doesn't work, and there are no controls on the box itself. Even with a brand-new 190-mile antenna our reception is poor to nonexistent. Maybe we got a faulty box, but we wish we'd waited and purchased later -- this box has been nothing but frustrating since the very beginning. We'll be using our second coupon to replace this unit.

Trapped by the crap remote
I received this as a gift; so I shouldn't complain but I will anyway. Yep, the remote is crap. You have to try to use the junk remote or punch the up down keys on the front of the box. I get 20 stations with a leaf antenna, before that I got 9 with rabbit ears. Thinking about getting a better box and moving this to another less used room. I do like the scan feature, but lord help you if you lost the code or manual to your box.
