works great for our hotspot prone Golden Retriever
A friend gave us the first tube- it worked for her Golden Retrievers. When our fella starts licking, at the first sign of a hotspot or repeated licking, we apply it and he stops the licking (well, sometimes just diverts it--but he won't lick where the material is placed. You will still need to do the whole routine that your vet will tell you- shave the area, topicals, maybe oral antibiotics BUT you have to stop the licking, too. It is the ONLY thing that stops his licking which has now gone from hotspot to lick granuloma in the one hot spot that he licked the most. We have, however, gone through multiple tubes of this but it does work. The problem licker will just lick somewhere else but it will protect the vulnerable spots. I do not know what we would have done without it. We tried three collars and finally found one we like (the inflatable type) which is a deterrent but they can still get to their back legs. Tip- when our dog is inside (anytime we are home), we place a towel on his back legs while he is lying near us, that is a minor deterrent but also a clue that he has tried to lick if the towel is moved.) Good luck!

good product
works great . my dog has one little spot on his body that she loves to lick. there is nothing there on ;the outside and the vet recommended it. I ordered a second tube and it does last a long time. It does the trick and stops her from licking for about four days and then I put it on again and she's good for another 4 or 5 days. I will say this, if you're sensitive to smell, it's not the sweetest smell in the world, it's pretty strong medicinal wise. But does the trick

Excellent
It does work, dog won't lick product. She smells a bit like a pharmacy, but worth it. The only drawback, It is a bit greasy , so I need to watch where she lies down as one place she licks is on her side. Other wise I would give 5 stars. Could come in a bigger tube.

May have helped some
An older cat had a wound on his shoulder that she kept licking, and even a $90 trip to the vet didn't help. I tried this, some liquid bandage, an Elizabethan collar that was too heavy, triple antibiotic, and finally wound wash, chlorhexidine gluconate before the sore started to heal. The lick guard helped a couple of times, and gave the cat the message that the wound was not to be bothered, but she became scared of me and the ointment, which must have been painful. We moved on to other methods. I was taught to use hydrogen peroxide on abscesses and sores, but the wound wash is more gentle on cat and human skin.

Great product !
My 2 year old Chiapom would not stop licking her leg and developed a granuloma. We tried everything - including collars and two trips to our vet. I found Lick Guard on line and decided to give it a try. The first night we applied Lick Guard she started to lick her leg and stopped immediately. We applied for several more days and she completely stopped licking her leg. The granuloma is now healed. Highly recommend this product. Just want to add I was careful not to get product on the sore, was concerned it would hurt. Wish I had found it earlier - will ensure I always have on hand.

A very good and effective product.
My dog had a skin infection on a large elbow hygroma, which had a very foul odor. After a regimen of 2-3 daily cleanings of wound (as directed by veterinarian) and applying an Rx antibiotic ointment, I applied the Lickguard around the wound area and it worked as the dog stopped the licking and further irritation. The ointment also had a strong pleasant smell of pine, citrus, balsam, etc. which overpowered the original odor of the wound.I felt the ointment worked extremely well and would buy it again.

Obnoxious Smell! Not for Indoor Pets!!!
Well, this works! BUT, the smell is absolutely overwhelming! Eye-watering kinda smell! Positively NOT for indoor pets! The smell permeated through-out our house!!! Even a small application has a very BIG smell!
