Craving these since I ate at Portillo’s
Went to Portillo’s in Orlando. Haven’t had a real hot dog in years and I’ve tried other vegan brands but none were really worth talking about. In other words, my experience with other plant based brand hot dogs has been pretty mediocre. I had read reviews about the Garden Chicago Style Dog at Portillo’s and had even seen a few great reviews about it on YouTube. So last week the family went to Disney and while we were driving there I suddenly remembered Portillo’s and made it my business to go while we were in town. Portillo’s is a spot that sells Chicago style hot dogs and other stuff. My husband is a meat eater and was very skeptical about trying this. He wanted a real hot dog but I ordered him the Garden Dog instead and after we both gave it a thumbs up on both flavor and texture, I did my research and learned that this is the brand they use. When we got home, I looked for them and they were sold out except for on Amazon Fresh. I placed the order and they arrived the next morning in my grocery delivery and I immediately threw a few in a pan. I pan fried them and added sweet jalapeño, onion, tomato, pickle stackers, ketchup and mustard and THEY WERE SO YUMMY!!! Did not disappoint. Texture and flavor was definitely great. They smelled like a hot dog, as far as price goes, I got 5 in a pack for just under $8 which is pricey but not surprising, I feel they were the perfect thickness and has the quality of a good dog you’d get at a good hot dog spot. As far as value for money, I think they could be a little less expensive because there are only 5 in the pack but I’d still buy them. As a matter of fact, this will be my one and only plant based hot dog brand from now on.

best hot dogs ever
I've only been vegetarian since 2012 and I used to looooove hot dogs. I've tried every plant-based one available in stores and this one is actually delicious and the most authentic. It's got that perfect smokiness and it's texturally correct. Even though I always loved a good grilled hot dog, I was always slightly creeped out to think of what parts might me in them. Vegan dogs take away that creep factor and I can honestly say that I would prefer this one even if I was still a meat eater!

Tasty
Pretty good! Wish they didn’t contain sugar, but I get it: gotta have some sweetness to taste more authentic. Just charred them in a pan, popped ‘em in their toasty buns, added organic sweet relish, organic ketchup and spicy brown mustard. OMG! 😋 Been craving hot-dogs. Satisfying!Note to company: please put 6 in a package

Good substitute for hot dogs
I wanted a non-meat alternative for hot dog night and this worked out well. I slice them lengthwise and fry them up in a bit of butter or oil, then add them to a toasted bun with some mustard and sauerkraut and am very happy with the result. They are bigger (longer, not really wider) than the veggie hot dogs I usually see. They keep for a handful of days in the fridge once opened; just seal them up well.

Not soy free anymore
It tastes terrible and my kids can’t eat it anymore. They used to taste similar to Nathan’s, but now they taste like every other soy hot dog.I called the corporate line and they said they made the changes so it would be cheaper to produce. So, thanks to them, I can no longer give my kids any of the vegan hot dogs from their allergies. The texture is terrible. The value for money is in the toilet, and they’re somehow more garbage than those bottom tier Gwaltney hotdogs.

Oh I like this
A lot more flavor than the usual tofu hotdog, and stands out no matter how many condiments or chili or flavorful bread one uses. Those little tofu dogs I definitely do enjoy, but have to be used with white bread buns or you can't taste them at all. But this one brings it all.

EXTREMELY Disappointed
I was raised vegan from a very young age, as I got older, I decided to try meat alternatives, because I was curious about them. I found only a few brands passed the taste test, though I didn’t really have the ability to compare them to real meat, because I haven’t eaten meat practically in my entire life. This brand field roast, makes several varieties of cheese substitutes, which are very tasty, but these hotdogs were one of the worst purchases I have ever made. When I open the bag and pulled one of the hotdogs out it practically fell out of my hand because it was covered in a slippery, slimy texture . It’s hard to describe it other than to say it felt like the hot dogs were swimming in liquid soap. I decided to go ahead and run it under the water to get the film off, but the slimy feel was hard to get rid of. I don’t know what that slimy slippery stuff is, but I heated it, took a bite and was done . I threw the entire package away and they were almost 7 dollars. I got my money back, but I’m disappointed to say these are awful. They’re too gross and slimy to be as expensive as they are. I have learned how to make my own meat alternatives and I can say this with full confidence, I’d rather sell mine, then ever buy these again. And that’s a fact.
