Q: This is my first try of a saffron, and it smells like shoe leather. Is it normal?

mine also didn't smell like saffron, perhaps it wasn't fresh , next time try buying from the store like trader joe's or home goods ( I got a great price from Home goods for Spanish or Greek saffron)
