Extremely useful
I bought this for work and my studies. It's a simple, idiots guide to Lime in all ots different connertations. It shows you how to make it, how to use it and what and which applications. Theees info on manufacturers as well. Has a few diagrams, easy to read and reference. It's short but informative. It does what you need it to do.

Best book on lime I've come across!
This booklet is a veritable mine of information, recipes, applications and exactly how-to's. If you were to buy only one book on lime and its applications and uses in building this would be it.Could it have been longer/thicker? Yes. Would that have helped it to be a better book? Absolutely No.The author could have done as so many do, which is take a subject and bury it under mounds of information, where you have to spend weeks digging through the useless in order to extract the nuggets that have real life application. This is a booklet of pure nuggets basically. There is nothing superfluous in it.It's beauty is really in its simplicity and cutting to the chase. The diagrams though simple are exactly what you need in terms of seeing for instance the depth and angle you need to dig out the old before repointing with new. External, internal, on wood, pretty much everything you're ever likely to do with lime is covered. Even a section on slacking your own lime if needed. I am a complete beginner where lime is concerned, have never used it, but having discovered beautiful though old and crumbling stone walls beneath a dreadful shell of moulding plasterboard I'm itching to get started. The recipes alone are worth the price.

Every builder should have this book
This is probably at least the eighth copy of this book I have purchased. I like to give one to every person who does repairs in my house. It is informative and easy to use and I highly recommend it.

Good introduction to working with Lime
This is a good introduction to the subject of lime. It does however only cover the use of non hydraulic lime (more traditional lime)It is very easy to read, short and to the point. It is a booklet not a book. If you want an indepth book on the subject there are other more expensive titles out there.Anyone who works with "wet materials" will know that the majority of practical knowledge on applying products must be learnt by doing it once you have read up on the basics. This booklet will do just that. They also sent me 2 x second class stamps as a refund on what they consider to be a expensive Amazon postage fees. Not something you see very often.

An excellent, super practical guide that makes every other book on the subject seem unnecessarily turgid.
This is an excellent book. Very pragmatic so akin to hunting the Internet when you just really need to fix something. Gets straight to the point & into the subject, no rattling on about the history of such n such as to how Bill the Wallbuilder discovered it in 6000BC after a prank went wrong playing with the limestone office toilet or how scientists spent...'50odd pages worth of non essential chemistry'...fascinating but not really required reading. The bits that do contain such info are very short and simply & quickly highlight the role of lime mortar; so they do add points of practical interest rather than detract with plodding info. All in all its the best book on the subject for me. Everything you really need to know, is there.

Great little book
This is a really great book.We are undertaking a renovation project on a stone cottage and doing most of the work ourselves. We both did a one day course on Lime building, but have struggled to remember all that we crammed into that one day. 'Building in Lime' has been a great guide to refer back to. It has covered every technique we have needed so far without being over complicated. It is not a coffee table book with pretty pictures and photos, but a concise practical guide that anyone using Lime will find useful. Additionally the author also very kindly included a large letter stamp as a refund for some of the postage costs.
