I am afraid I don't understand your question about the dollar store. And I haven't had the old system. This is the first O-Cedar bucket floor cleaning system I have ever owned but its awesome. The clean and dirty water are separated and the the wringer wrings the water out really well.! Does that help??

It spikes quite often, just keep typing it in the bar sometimes, different merchants, will change price.
