Ghost Controls Heavy Duty Dual Solar Automatic Gate Opener Wireless Access Bundle

Purchased this solar kit for our [rural] main road entry gate setup; dbl 8' heavy duty stock gates (sleeve hinges), double 6x6 posts each side, and a lot of weekender Summer traffic. Also purchased the GC Battery Box w/ (2) batteries, and the Zombie Lock. Installation was fairly simple, very straight-forward, and the instructions are excellent for installation and system setup. The arms are more heavy-duty than the three others systems I reviewed when trying to determine what manufacturer and grade to purchase. All four systems were comparable and of good quality. The system is very integrated, and has worked flawlessly since installation. The single 10w Solar panel easily maintains the batteries here in Northern Colorado but if required, adding another is quick to do. I preferred this particular solar kit because it includes the Wireless Keypad and Wireless Vehicle Sensor, which reduces pull from the battery pack over the "wired" versions, just change out the 2-C cells once a year (# of cycles/use dependent). I also purchased the 5-Button Remote for quicker "Party Mode" setup. Some people have been able to set up their vehicle Homelink. Note: My 2010 Dodge pickup "learned" the remote however will not operate the gate, but ALL 2015 and newer vehicles have had success so far.I cannot recommend the GC system more highly...robust, quiet, and system set up and configuration and as-needed adjustments are quick and easy.UPDATE: The openers have been working flawlessly for 6 months. However we have discovered that while the GC Battery Pack (with 2-7ah batts) is a clean solution for a single use driveway as the solar can sustain charge levels with the typical number of vehicle trips (2 cycles per), our installation was multiple properties with many more vehicle trips per day and Winter 'low sun' levels caused the batteries to not keep up. We replaced the 2-7ah batteries with a standalone 75ah AGM deep cycle battery (& box) as GC suggests, plus added a second 10w solar panel to further capture the sun sweep during the day. So far this has provided perfect operation with no "low voltage" faults....until yesterday. The 20watts of solar could not maintain the battery with Winter (even here in sunny Colorado), and over time (a month +/-) it ultimately got to a low voltage level and needed to be recharged to full status.For Winter months I now plan to remove the battery once a week and bench charge it for a half a day to top it off. For multiple property access control with higher than typical vehicle trips this is a consideration one should take into account.NOTE: This system was installed not for security but ACCESS CONTROL - people see a road, even with private signage, and they drive in...they see gates and turn around. If someone really wanted to get in they could simply cut the right of way wire fence. We do like the aspect of the gates providing some security, which was our intent.

Easy to install, looks great, works great

We love this gate opener, it changed our life and made our property value go up. We get so many comments on how fancy it looks to have this set up at our gate. It works great even on a large metal gate we have no difficulty. Keypad is wonderful and so are the remote openers. The one thing is that setting up the sensor placement for the automatic open on exit took us a while to find the right spot for that to communicate with the gate. Once we got it we are so happy and have had no problems.

It does exactly what it claims to do. It opens and closes my gate, so I don't have to. Would definitely buy again.

Love the quietness of the opener and was an easy DIY install.

This is an awesome system. Keep in mind, the solar panel must be in direct sunlight to properly charge the battery. Otherwise, it will be dead by morning and you'll have to manually open your gate.

So east to install. Using a full solar setup. Buy the two battery kit. Love it.

I’ll start by saying the opener has worked great over the month we’ve had it installed so far. Quiet and has been reliable for the most part.One major disappointment was during the installation process. The inside gate (closes to box) only comes with a 6’ cord. So a 3 foot drop only has 3 feet left to distance and go up to the control box. This leaves the control box well within arms reach if you reach through the gate. Entirely defeats the purpose of security…. The cable can not be lengthened without voiding the warranty….. Very poor and unthought out design that could have been fixed with a dollars more worth of wire...Customer service was not helpful requiring I uninstall the entire gate opener (which took about 12 hours to install), send it back, and make a custom opener with an extended cable and reinstall it. (They don’t sell these on Amazon and they are much more for a 16’ cable. I almost bought a second unit and just replaced the short cord arm, but have morals…Was very disappointed and now have a control box that an intruder can just manipulate from outside the gate….Remotes could have a stronger range. Open sight, they will reach about 100-150 feet. Through a wall, door, window or even tree, there is almost no range.Have it 3 stars, because it does work well so far, but I was more than frustrated at some of the obvious misses in the design…
