Works flawlessly.
This is my third DVR. If my security cams hadn’t been analog I’d obviously use IP but the cost & labor associated with pulling all new cable is prohibitive. The original system was a commercial DVR which was replaced by a Nigh**wl system which was replaced by an inexpensive Z*s* system. None of them worked reliably especially for remote viewing. I even used a timer to reboot them every day because of connectivity issues. There is only so much tech support frustration a person can take. I had purchased a pair of Amcrest WIFI PTZ cameras for random purposes since I could move them where ever I needed them. To this day they have always been flawless. Power outages, network outages, hurricanes, power glitches, you name it they always came back on-line without intervention. So I finally decided to try their DVR. It was easy to set up, I used the HDD from my Z*s* DVR. The Amcrest DVR uses the same app as the WIFI cameras & it was quick and easy to add it as a new device to the app. So far it too has been rock solid. And it gives me better video quality and frame rate than the DVR it replaced. Very happy with the product so far, wish I had chosen this brand to begin with.

Good product and very helpful customer service.
I needed to replace my 10 year old Amcrest DVR with a newer model that would still accept the cameras I have. I reached out to Amcrest for assistance and was helped by a rep named Grace.C. She helped me locate a model that didn't require me to replace my current cameras at this time but allows for me to add 4k cameras when I'm ready. Really great support. For the product, this is a smaller in size than my last unit and all 8 cameras are connected. This will also allow me to upgrade my 1080 cameras to a 4k PTZ cameras when I'm ready. It's been working well via the android app for remote viewing. So far I'm very happy with my purchase and have liked Amcrest products for many years. Would recommend reaching out to their customer service/sales if unsure what to get as Grace.C did a great job understanding my request and helping me find the right unit.

Frustrated customer
Piece of junk, was not a whole product and lacked capacity to record During live feed it beeped constantly and their customer service was unable to unlock or assist. Totally frustrating and worthless expenditure. We had a previous DVR that was same model ( whole ) that had quit working. This product should be allowed to be returned for a full refund by Amazon without upsetting an excellent customer. Don't get it.

Happy with Quality and Features Compared to Previous Brand for 8 Years
After having security camera DVR systems (16 cameras) for about 8 years and staying with just one brand, I was forced to find two DVR systems utilizing my existing wired BNC cables (installed in the attic and walls) and 4K cameras, as my two (2) nearly 2 year old 4K DVR systems needed replacement. I replaced them with these two Amcrest AMDV5108-I3 DVRs. The last systems I had were 4K or so they said it were. I purchased 4K (3840 x 2160) monitors thinking that'll fix the poor color, clarity and blury/static-motion of moving objects problem, but it never did. With these Amcrest DVRs, vibrant colors and clarity of my existing BNC 4K (8MP) cameras on these Amcrest DVRs are significantly noticeable. I'm happy I found Amcrest. Yes, live viewing and playback is at 7fps but it is still much better than what I had on the former DVRs. At least I can see what kind of vehicle make it is, and if it is a male or female walking their dog if they were wearing shirt/jeans, in broad daylight. In my search for a replacement system, I could not find a 4K DVR system with 30fps, or even 15fps live viewing and playback. Possibly on NVR, but I was not looking for CAT6 systems. Not to mention I’m pretty sure I’d be paying an arm and a leg for it if I found one. I'm happy with these Amcrest DVRs. I’ve had it for a month, and am still learning how to tweak the system, especially utilizing its AI capabilities. It has better features than my previous 4K DVR systems, and I wish I had found Amcrest much earlier. Tech support of my previous brand were outright terrible and non-responsive and that is why I looked for another brand. I have not yet experienced Amcrest Tech Support though.

Poor Quality & Poor Support - Think twice
After a good bit of research I purchased this along with 4 new Amcrest 8MP coax cameras to replace my old analog CCTV system which was still working but cameras starting to go out after 10 years of use. I specifically purchased this model XVR because it was listed on Amazon to work with the new Amcrest cameras I purchased. The Amcrest cameras are configurable to 4 different types of video format. However, neither manual for the camera or for the NVR\XVR mentioned what format was preferred or required by XVR. I found something on the website that suggested CVI so that is what I used. After installation the new cameras would not show a picture and stated invalid video format. However, my old non-Amcrest cameras seemed to work just fine despite the disclaimer on Amazon saying will not work with 3rd party cameras. I contacted tech support which was useless. I wasted 45 minutes on the phone with them and got reasons like you need to change to a 5ghz router (these are coax cameras…. not wifi) and the model XVR you purchased doesnt support 8MP cameras only up to 5MP despite the box literally saying 4k 8MP camera capable. Was sent to a higher level of support but they didn’t reach out for days and only via email. Troubleshot myself and determined it was a faulty NVR. Replacement seems to be working. Still no response from tech support after a week waiting. I am sure they will probably reply to this an say were sorry please reach out to our customer support team but you wasted a day of my life troubleshooting new equipment, didn’t respond to my tech support request, and gave me inaccurate information. The only positive here was easy return policy with Amazon. By the way it does work just fine with 8MP 4K cameras and no you don’t need a 5 Ghz wireless router either.

Great DVR for the money! Great way to revamp your TVI surveilance system!
Have been using Amcrest for years and plan on continue doing so. Very good brand (and is a OEM of Dahua). If you are looking for the DVR/NVR (as well as cameras) for a small surveilance project this is a way to go! Easy installation and easy configuration. Recording length will vary depending on the hard drive capacity that you would utilize. For 8 Cameras I install a minimum of 4 TB hard drive. That should be enough storage capacity for about 2 weeks on a DVR model. NVR models might vary depending on the bitrate used.

Poor Customer Support
I bought this DVR based on its supposedly renowned name in CCTV systems and for its technical support. It was commissioned at the end of September 2023, the main objective was to enable its advanced IA feature of FD/FR; the first week worked as advertised. Then a firmware update available on the Amcrest website was installed and after that, the FD/FR function did not work anymore. The function appears enabled in the main live window, but it does not capture any face even if a person is standing in front of the camera. After that, reinstalled the previous firmware version, the FD/FR settings were re-verified as indicated in the manual and in the e-guides on the Amcrest website trying to find something wrong or missing, but everything seems to be OK. After that it was decided to contact Amcrest technical support, every screenshot of the AI section was documented with the intention that the staff in charge could analyze the info sent and issue a concept of what could have happened, if there was something wrong configured, etc, but there was never a specific answer about it, no one ever had the courtesy to say "we reviewed the info and found a missing setting" or something like that, something that would indicate that they had taken the time to analyze the problem. Their only response was that it was difficult to determine what had happened just by looking at the document sent, they made no comment on the impact that the updated firmware may have caused in the equipment, absolutely nothing, only that they had escalated the concern to their research and development department, and that if I wanted to call them at their phone number because for the moment they could not do anything else. So the equipment works as a normal DVR recording video but is useless for the promoted functions of AI, an absolutely useless technical support service.
