Not even close to big enough
No matter if u have a 20 gallon nano reef or a 55 gallon reef tank, bigger will always be better. First of all, this one just doesn’t give the air enough contact time with the media. But even so, it still goes thru the media SUPER FAST!!! Just not worth the headache of changing the media every 2-3 days, and STILL not getting that boost in PH u weee hoping for. The medium is far superior!! Or, as I also do for a few tanks, just run an airline out a window. Even if it’s 30’ feet away, once ur skimmer starts getting that fresh air, u WILL see a major boost. On my tanks that have tubing pulling in outside air, I finally hit ph numbers I never thought I’d see in the 8.45 range and bottoming out to 8.1-8.15 at night/early morn. In the tanks I’ve used the small reactor, I went from a daily of 8.02 to an 8.08/8.1 and the same nighttime as before at 7.78… but with the medium, on the same tanks with the same starting point ph, I was hitting an 8.26/8.28 and bottoming out late night early morn no lower than an 8. And this is with me, my GF, 3 big dogs and 2 parrots. We do have A LOT of plants, but they don’t help in the slightest w the co2 levels in the house when all the doors/windows are closed up. I finally got a monitor, and it’s truly crazy how much of an effect the co2 has on my reef tanks. When I’m in the 400-550 range, I hit 8.45 ph no problem at all. When I’m in the 600-750 range, my tanks will NOT go above an 8.2. It’ll try hard every time my alk gets dosed (24 times a day on a dosin pump). The only way I was able to reach the numbers I wanted before was by manually dosing twice a day, right before lights on (dose 7ml Red Sea Foundation B) and right before lights out, dosing 8ml. That pretty much kept me above 8.4 all day and above 8.1 thru the night. But then ur dealing w alk swings that are most certainly going to hurt/kill ur more sensitive corals. I admit, some of my corals didn’t care about the swings (as they weren’t HUGE) n so they grew like crazy. Even many of my acros took off. But my favorite angry birds acro frag died along w a few other random pieces. So, for me, it’s just not worth the risk.
