So cool, I bought it twice!
Wohoho!!! This book is nuts!I got this for my adult son for Christmas. He is extremely hard to buy for, but I know he has always loved science, so I figured he’d enjoy this.Within minutes after opening it, and while there were still many gifts left to unwrap, each of my kids, my son-in-law, and my husband were all huddled around this book! By the time the day was done, more time had been spent reading this book - by any one of them - than was spent cooking and cleaning up Christmas dinner. It was the hit of the holiday. That was Christmas. This review is actually for the second copy I bought. After seeing what a guy that made, I bought this again, this tome for my youngest child for his 18th birthday. This was a COVID quarantine birthday, so not exactly the 18th birthday that every kid dreams of having. That said, this book really cheered my kid up. He read it cover-to-cover at least twice. Now, this book is full of amazing experiments that could actually work - but please don’t test them out! They are bizarre and dangerous, but that’s what makes this book so incredibly cool to read. ONLY to read!File these experiments under “do not try this at home”! All in good fun, though!

My kids love it
The only problem I have is that I repeatedly have to explain to my kids why we should not actually do these projects, and that while yes, they look fun, they will probably end up hurting someone.

another entertaining book
This author has other fun chemistry books (an oxymoron?- apparently not) and this one is at least as entertaining for my 10 year old. Some of the experiments are obviously not practical but we tried the powdered sugar flamethrower and it worked great. The book is fun just for reading, though.

Wow they aren't kidding when the say you probably shouldn't.
This is cool stuff, but don't get it planning on school science projects with the kids. This stuff is dangerous. I'm not sure that I would do ANY of these demonstrations, certainly not most of them. (Okay, maybe when I was young and thought I was "bulletproof?) Still it's a fun read......just don't forget your safety goggles folks.....

Great Science books
My son loves Theodore Gray's books. They are easy to understand without being over simplified. Lots of illustrations. If you have an interest in science, especially chemistry, give Theodore Gray a good look.Note, I don't have any connection with Theodore Gray or received any compensation for this review. This is how I really feel.

Great writer. Read the book in the library and ...
Great writer. Read the book in the library and renewed it. I am not gonna tell you what experiments I did, but I have 11 semesters of college /pr/post grad chem and a home lab. His book on elements is awesome, but I think he totally underated copper and argon/

this book can spark an interest in chemistry at any age!
it reads like a coffee table book, with beautiful images, high-quality publishing, and fun little recipe-stories that pique the imagination and demonstrate how humans have learned to separate and recombine their environment in wild and fantastic ways. awesome book, loved it.

Very MacGyver like experiments
A lot of flash and bang in the experiments. But most of them really shouldn't be done at home.

Gorgeous Book!
Over-the-top experiments for your resident (supervised) mad scientist. Well and humorously written and beautifully laid out and photographed.

You will not be able to try this at home
You will not be able to do any of these experiments at home. This book is aimed at teachers or those with the own lab at home. They ask for mercury, chlorine, oxidising agents. Not generally in your household cupboard
