GREAT unit that is easy to install and program. Very DIY
When we bought our new house, I purchased this unit to replace the huge, 1970's era timer that sounded like a ticking time bomb! As a previous owner of a Rain Bird 4-zone system very similar to this, I decided to stick with Rain Bird and get this unit for the new house, which had a total of 8 zones. The unit is completely silent and about 1/4 the size of the old one. Installation was incredibly simple and straightforward. Most of the time you simply hook the wires up in the same order you took the old ones off. I recommend taking a picture or two of your current wiring before doing anything. This will allow you to reference back to what color wire controlled what zone and at least put everything back the way it way should you find yourself over your head. Programming is also very simple. It also is pretty fool proof... for example, if you leave the start time for every zone at 8am, with each zone set to run for 5 minutes, then it will automatically start Zone 1 at 8am for 5 minutes, then Zone 2 for 5, then Zone 3, etc. This way, you can easily change the duration for each zone without having to ensure the start times for each zone do not overlap. It makes scheduling and updating very easy!

Rain Bird SST900i sprinkler Controller
SUPERB sprinkler controller, Easy to install, Easy to program, it has all the features I wanted : Buttons / settings for " water one zone now " & " water all zones now ", " Seasonal adjust ", Timed Rain Delay. I have had it working for a few weeks now, & everything works just fine & on time. We have an 8-zone watering system, this controller is a 9-zone one, the extra zone turns on our well pump and feeds water to a back yard water faucet that feeds 2 extra sprinklers. Great controller & fully programmable for days of the week, start & run times for every zone. I would certainly buy another one of these. FYI ... There seems to be another one being sold (with same model number), that looks VERY similar, but it does NOT have the " Water all zones now " button. So look out for the two buttons under (and to the right) of the round controller dial.

Great unit!
We purchased this item as a replacement of a 14-year-old Rainbird unit that wasn't working properly anymore. This was very easy to set up and i'm loving all the newer features, especially the "water all zones". My only complaints are as follows: * Display next watering time: For some reason, it just says one zone instead of the all the zones we set up. It seems to water all of them but not sure it just says, zone 6, for example. * No way to hold zone information/reminder card - in our old unit, the housing box actually was in a "box" so we were able to close it. Sometimes I just want to water our flower beds for a few minutes and forget which zone it is. Having somewhere to store that would've been helpful. Other than that, so far a great unit!

True to its description
Originally purchased the 4 zone version to replace one of two systems that went out (front and back yards were done at different times). It worked so well, it got me thinking to replace the 4 zone with the 9 zone to cover the 7 zones needed. Compared to two clunky older systems this unit replaced, it is a dream. Granted, 10 years plus have gone by, this should be revolutionary. The standards are still the same but the User Interface significantly improved. Gone are the days of backup batteries and cryptic and sometimes inflexible settings. The rain sensor add on might make it even more interesting then again, how often would that even kick in in Sunny Southern California? The controller seems to also make the old sprinkler valves open up better as the water pressure appear to be greater now and spray pattern enlarged as result of replacing the older controller. Over all, very pleased. It is a great way to revitalize an aged sprinkler system. Now I have to seriously consider replacing some of the sprinkler heads as well as some of the valves. And since the hard work of the original install has already been done. This is an easy plug and play upgrade and changing programming so simple that the rest of the family can do it without much consternation. The complaint about multiple watering time has some minor merit although the rationale for watering multiple times evenly spaced out is well worth the reduced complexity it would otherwise add to elegant and simple to understand user interface. Highly recommend it for all but the most persnickety water schedules.

Excellent! Very easy to Install, Program, and Use
Excellent! Very impressed with product. Went to Lowes to buy a Hunter replacement unit, and they did not carry it, but they do carry this unit. I kept looking at all the features, and decided to come home and go on Amazon and check it out. Reviewers gave it high marks, and so I bought it. My only frustration came inserting wires into the terminal strip. There are zero details. After experimenting a little, the answer is trivial. Strip about 1/8" of insulation off the end, and just insert it into the appropriate hole. There is a little tab above each hole. Probably need to push on that to remove a wire. Pros: Installation was easy, and the instruction book is well done. Very easy to program Cons: Instruction book does not give details on inserting wires into terminal strip. See comments above. My question is how good is the rotary switch and the pushbutton switches? With good plating, this unit should last as long as the Hunter SRC unit I replaced - 13 years. It still worked, but started discharging the 9V battery in about 72 hours, and won't work without a battery connected. Hopefully, I will come back in the future and give a reliability update.

This matches my other irrigation controllers and makes setting up my irrigation in the spring quite easy now that all my controllers are of the same model.

Dial for selection function failed so that you cannot select any particular function. The last controller I had was non -name brand and lasted 25 years.
