A Unique Gift That Will Be Treasured For A Lifetime
I initially purchased several of these books for myself (I am 45) , because they are brilliant and adorable. I use the excuse that they are for my future grandchildren. Lol They are such great keepsakes for any age. I receive so many compliments on them from adults, and I have gifted Elton John, Prince, etc. to several adult friends. My collection is growing. They are of amazing quality and the illustrations are so creative. I adore these books!

Great biography series
I've found that a lot of students in my 6th grade classroom don't have a lot of experience reading and working with biographies. Because of this, I have been including books in my classroom library that are for a younger age group, but include the basics of someone's life. This really fits the bill. It's written clearly with just the facts. It gives some story to keep your interest as you read through the main aspects of the person's life. All of the Little People, Big Dreams books are laid out in chronological order. They are filled with more illustrations than writing. They also try to include famous quotes that the person has said within the writing. Sometimes these require a bit more research to completely understand, but that has worked in my benefit because my students then have to go find out more.Overall, this is a page turner that my middle school students can get through in about 15 minutes of silent reading. Because of that, it is popular to have out on the desks when we have independent reading or extra time. It's just long enough to fill that period of time and feel like you have learned something new about the person.

Good summary of Michael's accomplishments for this series
This is only our 2nd book in this series and I'm already such a big fan! I got this for my 14 month old, and while I now realize the reading level is for a little older, it is still a really nice and encouraging story to read to kids. I've always been a Michael Jordan fan and I thought that the short summary of his life was well done. There's only so much you can fit into these short story formats, and I think the author did a good job. The graphics are good, not my favorite, but all of the ones for this series are very similar from what I've seen so far. One thing I have to call out that was kind of funny but also cute, is that Michael is portrayed with his tongue sticking out in several of the pages. I think it was done as a way for the reader to know who he was when other characters are presented on different pages. I'm glad we have this book and once my daughter has a little more patience with longer sentences and paragraphs, I'll try reading this to her again.

Perfect for kids who are interested in sports!
My son loves basketball. And it didn't take long for him to have his favorite players in today's leagues (LeBron James, for example). It's my job as a dad to teach him the greats before this generation and argue with him who was better (haha).Michael Jordan has a unique story. Not only is he the greatest professional basketball player to ever play, but he came from a modest childhood in North Carolina and had to go through adversity before he was considered a great player late into his high school playing career. He didn't even make his Varsity team the first time he tried out! This tells the story of his family upbringing and brothers, who pushed him to greatness. It's a good story for not only kids but for anyone who reads it. The illustrations aren't spectacular, but they don't need to be.This is an excellent book for kids. Currently, it's priced at $15, which for a hardback cover book, isn't too much, in my opinion.

Great On and Off the Court.
This picture book biography is a great addition to the extensive Little People, Big Dreams biography series. The author makes a point that when Michael failed to get on his high school basketball team, his mother told him to "Go out and earn it". Jordan practiced until he had the skills and made the team the following year. This began his life long habit of hard work. The book follows his career from sprots hero to business man and philanthropist. The writing is simple and easy for an early reader. The cartoonish art is designed to appeal to the same very young reader. Unfortunately, it was so simple and blocky that I didn't really see any resemblance to Jordan except for the shaved head. Although I did like the cute touch of including the famous bit of him sticking out his tongue while he made a shot. This is a solid biography for little sports fans. Older readers will appreciate the additional info in the timeline at the back.

Inspired by his accomplishments, it is another American success story
Michael grew up distinctly middle, maybe upper-middle-class, and did not have the struggles that other athletes have had. That, and he was amazingly talented. Still, he could have risen to near the top without doing anything but rely on his natural athletic abilities and it's good that youngsters recognize that he didn't get near the top, he got to the top because he took his natural skills and honed them through persistence, dedication, and hard work.Michael Jordan has done a lot for many people and while it's mentioned in passing, it would have been good to be able to explain how Michael shared his good fortune because he understood that that's what you do; you share and help others not as fortunate as you and he is an excellent example of that. Of course, he was probably the best that ever played, but what's truly important as a lesson is what he's done since leaving the sport.Still, recommended but I like to bring up his philanthropy.Review of: Michael Jordan (Volume 72) (Little People, BIG DREAMS)
