This is not an effective microscope for a person on any level of microscope knowledge
First of all, my kids were not able to look at insects, flowers, etc. clearly because this "microscope" only uses bottom lighting. This necessity was not specified before I purchased this item for my children school biology assignments. Secondly, there isn't a way to zoom in on an item, other than raising or lowering the observation tray. Another necessity not there.Lastly, there were no instructions that were specific to it. This includes how to set it up to view images on a PC or Mac. You do get a general book on microscopes however, and how to use them. Up unto the time we used this thing, I did not consider myself a person deep into microscopes, however, after this conundrum, I can honestly say that I am now. I do not recommend this at all.
