Q: Does this have a buzzer?

No, it just lights up when connected to a continuous circuit. Not to be confused with a voltage sensor, which detects voltage present in a circuit. The continuity tested must be only used with a non energized circuit.

To Access battery/bulb compartment unscrew the tip on corded end

Yes, it does. It has a clear plastic sleeve that covers the probe. The probe's tip is not pointed like an awl. Instead it's a conical point with concentric rings around it designed, I presume, to prevent injury to the user.
