Book is in Black and White - Is this a misprint??
I think the content of the book is excellent! As a visual engineer who is beyond beginner, but not yet at Zen Master level, this is exactly the kind of book I was looking for, and Ann and Luke did not disappoint! What is most disappointing is the printing of this book in black and white, which makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. With color being one of the primary components of visualization, and portions of the book being dedicated to this concept, why on earth would this book be printed in black and white? The "Look Inside" clearly shows the printed material in color, so this is either a misprinting of the book or a deceptive marketing tactic on Amazon.I was really looking forward to receiving this book, and the authors did not disappoint. I will most certainly add it to my Tableau library, but when it is printed in COLOR!

Excellent content ( but was it meant to be in color?)
Excellent resource for Tableau Desktop users who create and maintain dashboards. Really helpful content regarding calculated fields. My only issue is, was this book meant to be in color? In the Look Inside preview, charts are in color, but with copy I received, it’s in B&W. Color would have been useful with the Tableau screenshots. Other than that, a nice Tableau resource to have.

Got sent a black & white version
Great book, but got sent a black and white version. Unfortunately, without colors, the book loses some of the value. Imagine this is on the publishers, not the author.

Too many errors and typos to be useful instruction
If you are hoping to learn Tableau, this is not the book to buy. You will be more frustrated than you will ever feel like you are learning because there are so many errors in the text and figures.I’m very disappointed with the quality of this book. I often like O’Reilly books, but this one is terrible. There are so many errors and typos that the graphs I get rarely look like the images the book claims that I will see. I follow the step-by-step directions exactly and end up with something that looks nothing like the pictures in the book. There some obvious errors (e.g., Figure 4-13 is obviously a copy-paste error where Figure 4-8 was copy-pasted in instead of the screenshot that should have been pasted; on page 166, you are instructed to put [Call Reason] on the Column shelf but the figure shows that on the Row shelf, etc.) Then there are errors that can’t be figured out - on page 173, they tell you to use [Profit Ratio] in a calculation, but they never defined [Profit Ratio] so you have to guess at that step/calculation. If you don’t guess correctly, you will never generate the graph on page 175.The book seems like it has the potential to teach useful Tableau skills and knowledge, but there are too many errors and typos to make this useful and meaningful instruction. Also, I am disappointed that it is printed in black and white. The library’s copy of the book had color pictures which are useful for confirming that you have made correct choices when guessing at unclear instructions in the book. But even in color, many of the pictures have such low resolution that you can’t read the text in the images of screenshots. Given how many errors there are in the text, you really need to be able to read the images to identify what the correct written instructions should have been.

Useful and practical guide to building dashboards for real-life problems
I initially got the book last year, but didn't have much time to read it, so I only picked it up lately. It has been a really good resource to come back to and draw ideas from, and offers very practical solutions to actual, real-life use cases that analysts in most businesses need to solve.Definitely a valuable addition to the library for anyone who uses Tableau in any capacity.

Helpful but Disappointing Overall
I was excited to get a publication that guided the reader through Tableau in a practical manner that really took advantage of the cool things the software can do. I've seen Ann Jackson's instruction in other media and she always does an outstanding job.Unfortunately, the print version of this book is not nearly as good as I hoped. The preview on Amazon clearly displays everything in color, but the book I received is in black and white. Many of the screen images are excruciatingly difficult to make sense of due to small, monochromatic printing. Additionally, the step-by-step instructions sometimes leave important steps out or have inaccuracies, which is even more disappointing and might make some exercises impossible for some users to figure out. There is value to be gained from this publication, so it's a shame that better quality control was not performed to check the accuracy of the instructions and the printing quality.
