The Ox
John entwistle, the bass player for the who, change the role of electric bass and pop music and rock and roll forever. He was quite the innovator. I actually have a signature replica of an instrument he had custom built for him. It's been very interesting to see the world through his eyes I just got started reading and haven't gotten too far so he's still in the teens at this point tune in next week for more information

I REALLY ENJOYED THIS READ, THE OX WAS MY FAVORITE WHO MEMBER
i think to be fair regarding this biography the author had to deal with johns son chris and other family members as well as former members of the JE BAND as well as a few others to give us all the best picture reading this book, i have read KEITHS, ROGERS , PETES AND KENNY JONES biographys and i did notice there was a bit taken from all 4 of there bios as i have read them all and i did notice reading some of the stories i already knew how they where going to end based on the other 4 bios i read, i dont see how the author had an axe to gring or anyone that was interviewed for this becouse john could have wrote this bio if he had lived long enough to do so, just like tony fletcher doing keiths bio back in 1998 it was done very much the same way this was as keith to was 20 years gone when that bio came out, anyway lots of great old who stories, i enjoyed that the liberty was taken to discuss johns first 5 solo albums from smash your head (1971) through to late the hero (1981) i as a who fan of 42 years now DID NOT KNOW what a double life john had lead, i was very suprised back in 02 when he died the night before the tour kick off and when what caused his death was revealed i was a bit suprised as to the circumstances regarding his death as i felt he was a very grounded responsible musician, THIS BOOK/BIO tought me he was anything but that, he sure did live a double life, i was very suprised when i talked to a few people here in new york that knew him when he came to town as a few years after he passed they said OH YEAH HE WAS HUGE WITH THE COKE & EXPENSIVE BOOZE. i saw john live with the who 8 times in my life, sadly after he passed THE WHO where not the same live anymore, seeing roger & pete onstage WITHOUT HIM back in 02 was a bit of an eye sore for me ( nothing against pino he is a great bass player) towards the end of the book when i was reading about the new york october 2000 shows that i was at i remember i was at two of the 4 shows and one of them was the last night, GOD i never would have guessed in a million years during those 2 shows what was going on with him and that girlfriend of his lisa, she just ran out on him at the china club to get better blow & did not return for 2 days????? the stories about her and all the coke john was doing in the 90s up until his death was something i was very unaware of at that time!!! anyway i was suprised he did not get rid of that lisa johnson after she returned to the hotel after being with god knows who and did god knows what while on a coke binge like that, well john was also not faithful to his first wife , his second nor lisa but WOW he was so messed up it ended up for me being a bit of a SAD story. the guy had everything to live for but we all choose our own destiny, i felt bad for his son chris as his son i felt was very honest with his opinion regarding his dad, you must remember johns first wife is also CHRIS ENTWISTLES MOTHER so that is a touchy subject, if my dad had carried on that way and did that to my mom im not sure how i would feel about him. anyway like the DEAR BOY keith moon bio a lot of what you will read is from the people who where closest to john, i could not put this book down. also yes the author is british but i have no problem with how the book was written, i understood everything just fine, all i have to say as a huge fan of john and the who since 1978 now WHAT A SAD WAY TO GO AT ONLY 57 YEARS OLD. i am so happy johns bio finally came out, as for this being an official bio i think it is safe to say we all get a fantastic picture of what johns life was like. of coarse as someone else stated if an UNOFFICIAL bio does indeed come out in the future i find a lot of those would ( in johns case) just be a lot of crazy drug, sex wild party fueled gossip talk that would take more away from his music, this book gave me all i need to know about his sad downfall starting in the early 90s, RIP TO THE OX you are still very much missed the past 18 years now....
