This is a super heavy duty 5th wheel king pin lock - Highly recommend it
This our first fifth wheel trailer as we have upgraded from a (class IV hitch towed) travel trailer. I have always been very diligent securing my trailer with a hitch lock while it was in storage, however I didn’t believe I needed one for a Fifth Wheel Trailer. My thought was, just about every pickup truck has a class IV hitch, however very few have a fifth wheel hitch, therefore the probability of theft was much less than a travel trailer. While speaking with my fellow campers, they mentioned that “while it is true that theft of 5th wheel campers occur less often, you don’t want to become their target with an unlocked king pin.” OK, I’m convinced, so let’s go shopping for a king pin lock.Having some metal working experience, I wanted one that was the toughest to remove. I saw locks made of heavy gauge band steel and pot metal – not good, they could be removed with a hacksaw or literally pried off. I saw other locks that looked like a piece of pipe. They appeared to be tougher than the others due to their shape, however the thin gauge pipe could be diagonally sliced with a hacksaw and pried off. That’s when I saw and purchased the RoadPro RPKPSL-2 Heavy Duty Steel King Pin Lock. Although it’s a pipe style, it’s super heavy duty. I estimate it’s at least ¼” to 3/8” thick steel pipe stock with a lock welded to it. You simply place the lock over the king pin, turn the lock and a pin engages which prevents removal. It fits “snug” on the king pin so prying it off would be difficult. This lock also has a chain with a “yellow” card attached letting everyone know the king pin is secured. This also lets you know to remove it before trying to attach the fifth wheel to your vehicle. Heavy duty is what you want. Quite simply, it will take longer to remove and this will probably be a good deterent to make the thief go away. The only con is, if you lose the keys to this lock, and you do get two of them, get ready to have locksmith remove it or hire a welder with a cutting torch. Bottom line, be careful with your keys. I read that some owners of this king pin lock experience problems when they have a nylon lube plate attached to the 5th wheel. I have one installed and the lock fits perfectly, not a problem. So in summary, this item is exceptionally low priced on Amazon, qualifies for prime shipping, is of high quality materials and is super heavy duty. I highly recommend this product.

It works great and it very durable
Got this to go on our fifth wheel that stays in a gated storage unit when we are not out using it. It works great and it very durable, if someone would want to cut if off, it would be possible, but would more than l,likely take 10-30 min with a cutoff wheel. I am glad that they have attached a warning on the lock that hangs by a chain to make sure that you don't back your truck into the lock, or in my case, hit you r head on it (I have a lifted truck, so in order to be able to tow the fifth wheel, I had to install a 4.5'' lift on it). Overall, I am very pleased with this product and would recommend it to anyone looking to keep their property safe. So far I have had it installed for about 5 months, the chain is slightly rusted, but I live in the south where the humidity is very high most of the year. The actual lock still look like the day that it came out of the box, and the yellow tag is also still in perfect condition. The key still turns freely, and does not show any signs of corrosion on it. They did a great job when they were designing this, by putting the key slot facing down so nothing will get into it.

Relatively Effective Deterrent ...............
Some reviews suggest that it would take a cutting torch to defeat this RV theft guard. I'm not so sure that's the case. I think a clever thief could probably pull out or hack the key mechanism and pull the locking pin back to get it off the hitch pin. But, I can't think of another device such as those that lock the wheels that would be much harder to defeat. I.e., this unit will probably will discourage a thief as well as anything. Certainly a thief would be more visible working on this lock than he would be working on a wheel lock. And it's easier to install and remove than other solutions. Being highly visible, it also lets the thief know as he drives by that this target is going to take some doing and this probably sends him on his way looking for easier prey. And, the price is right.
