Accurate, Compact, and Loaded with Features
The Leica DISTO D2 is hands down the best laser distance measure I’ve ever used. Whether you’re a professional or a serious DIYer, this device is a game-changer. The accuracy is impressive, consistently delivering precise measurements up to 330 feet. It’s a huge time-saver compared to traditional tape measures, especially for large or hard-to-reach areas. The Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity is a fantastic feature. It allows me to easily sync measurements with my smartphone or tablet using the DISTO Plan app. This makes documenting and sharing measurements a breeze, especially on complex projects where accuracy is crucial.Despite its advanced features, the DISTO D2 is incredibly user-friendly. The interface is intuitive, with a bright, easy-to-read display and straightforward controls. It’s also surprisingly compact and lightweight, making it easy to carry around in your pocket or tool belt. The build quality is excellent, with a rugged design that feels durable and well-made.Another bonus is the multiple measurement modes, including area, volume, and indirect height measurements using the Pythagorean theorem. These features make it versatile enough for various applications, from construction to interior design. The battery life is solid, and it automatically shuts off after a period of inactivity to save power. I’ve used it extensively and haven’t had to change the batteries yet.Overall, the Leica DISTO D2 is worth every penny. It’s accurate, reliable, and packed with features that make measuring tasks quicker and easier. Highly recommend it to anyone who needs a top-quality laser distance measure!

A solid LMT - know your job needs first
Needed to do a 'site survey' for a quote. Picked this up last night and now I really like it.UPDATE: 2021-05-21After using this on a job site, I'm a very happy customer. With this nifty gadget I was able to take a massive amount of measurements on the site, all by myself, and in really good time. It did what I needed without a single hiccup. In hindsight, I definitely would have sprung for the ~$500 model. Making all my own drawings took too long.PROS:YES - easy to use, but read the manual first - it's a Laser Measurement Tool, (What part about 'laser' makes you think 'wing it'?)Well built, compact, and the materials used seem to be good durable plastics.Well designed: The flip out tool, the locking battery door design, and even the way the lanyard attaches make me think that whoever designed this took their time to try and make every piece fit and work as well as they could.Good instruction manual (online), useful training videos. The flip-out offset tool automatically adjusts the measurement, and a nice touch. The measurement functions are numerous, and covered all of my needs for a basic 'as-built' site survey. The Bluetooth connection is strong, and I really like how you can customize the way it records your measurements. You can change the precision, add things like date, time, add carriage returns, use tabs, etc. which makes it easier to use different software to collect your measurements.I didn't find the buttons hard to press as others have reported.CONS:No 1/4" hole for tripod/stand mount.A little small for my preference, but it is extremely portable.I wish that all the sides were flat and square, as it just makes more sense.Built for smaller/simpler jobs - or where software interface requirements are minimal. The battery life is just acceptable. I had my drawings made in advance, and the measurements in-room were fairly quick, but I'd guess that I got about 6hrs of use from one set of AA batteries.SUMMARY:Know your work before you buy a LMT.This unit works great for smaller jobs, and can do bigger jobs if you build your own maps/drawings - but I found that creating the drawings and adding numbers to all places in the drawing that needed measurement took me 10x as long as taking the actual measurements. If you're doing survey work, large remodels, or anything that involves creating a detailed 'as built' drawing of multiple spaces - you'll want a tool that will build the drawings for you. This means one with an inclinometer, more processing power, and bigger battery capacity.

Used for Every Cabinetry Job
I build and install custom cabinetry. This is a very useful piece of kit for me. I can quickly line sketch a room in the Distro app, snap measurements with the D2 and attach them to lines, and head back to put them in CAD with great confidence. My fits at install are always on point. Easy to add windows, doors, and wall openings. Photos to show a sample kitchen measure-up with a door, two windows, and a vent opening for a range exhaust. My shop is all metric, so I dont have the same issue the trim guys who work in imperial have with this device. I recommend metric regardless, much less prone to calculation and conversion errors. The flip-tab on the bottom for measuring from an outside corner is ingenious. I use it constantly and can't imagine not having it. Every LMD should have it.My only complaint is the force required to press the button to get a measurement. It's very stiff and doesn't soften over time, and can be tedious in tight quarters doing a one-handed measurement. Not enough of an issue to make me want a different measurer. In all other ways I love this thing.

I liked it so much returned it I ordered the next one up!
Leica lives up to the name. Accurate down to the 1/16! I never got it to read me a wrong measurement once from 11 inches up to 80ft. I was so impressed I returned it for the d3. I need a camera tripod mount and the other features makes it worth it for my line of work. The app worked great, Bluetooth connectivity was reliable and fast. Thoroughly impressed sad to return it!
