Q: how does it work with screws rather than nails?

You need to take the screws out first. You can pull them out with the deck wrecker, but you will damage your joists.

Q: Do you have to remove the initial board using traditional methods like a hammer and a crowbar or can you start the demo using the deck wrecker?

I start with the deck wrecker by removing the center nail from whatever board I can fit the tool. Once removed I work from the center to the outside. Hope this helps. I love this tool. I still have to use a hammer and small wrecking bar to pull nails that pull through the slats.

Q: Is it sold ar lowes or home depot?

I d'ont think it is sold at home depot or lowes. I got mine on line with amazon.com. it is a great tool & will save you a lot of time when removing deck boards

Q: can you use this to tighten the boards are push them closer?

This tool is designed to take them apart. The only way to push them together is to use it take them apart and then re nail them closer. Check out the YouTube videos of this tool.
