Big decision
Overview:I have purchased many of these storage containers, in various sizes. As with most OXO products, I have been extremely satisfied with them, and I would buy them again. More importantly, my wife appears to be equally impressed with her gift. That being said, I don't think they would work as well for everyone, as they do for us. They are expensive, and they are not necessarily the best choice for a home with small children. As such, I will provide you with my observations, and leave it up to you to decide how they would fit into your personal lifestyle. The pros:They seal flawlessly, and with great ease. I believe they are the best product available for keeping the freshness in, and the bugs out. They stack nicely, and their clear siding permits easy identification of the contents within. Their rounded corners make pouring a breeze. These containers come in a variety of sizes, and meet all of our kitchen dry-storage needs. They work for everything from baking goods, to cereals and crackers, to bread. Yes, the two largest container sizes can hold a normal-sized loaf of bread, and keep it fresh for much longer. They have really helped organize the pantry, which looks great, and makes it much easier to evaluate how much of a product requires replentishment, prior to shopping. The cons:First, many of them (especially the larger sizes) are not packaged well for shipping, and they have arrived in broken condition. Fortunately, Amazon Customer Service has promptly replaced them, without delay. To me, the long-term convenience far outweighs the short-term frustration.Second, we have not broken any of them after delivery, but we are also quite careful in their handling. I'm not sure how well they would do with small children, so be advised before you invest. I suspect a single drop on the hard kitchen floor would result in a damaged container, but I am not willing to test my hypothesis at this price.Third, they are not dishwasher safe, except for the silicon sealing ring. For us, this has not been a major issue, but it may be a problem for others. Personally, we have found their non-pourous construction to be easy to clean, so we don't mind hand washing them.Pre-purchase planning:Be aware that for stacking purposes, the containers come in three shapes (from the top view): small-square shape, large-square shape, and rectangular shape. While you can sometimes mix them for stacking, in general, I find that it is best to stick to one shape (for a particular stack). Also, be aware that you get more bang-for-the-buck with the larger sizes. The relationship between the price of the container and the volume of storage is indirect. In short, less storage costs you more money. In general, I find the large-square shape and the rectangular shape to be the most beneficial. They permit easy access, and they allow the buyer more options regarding what to put in them. That being said, understand that the prepackaged sets tend to come with a lot of the small-square shaped containers. The smallest sizes have limited functionality, but can be useful for storing raisons, small candies, etc. As for the spices mentioned by the manufacturer, spices usually come in a bottle. For those that don't, I believe there are better (and cheaper) products available.Summary:For those willing to deal with the shipping issues, the risk of future breakage, and the hand-washing, I think this is by far the best product on the market. With care, they will save you money in the long-run because: they keep things fresh, they keep the bugs out, and they make it easy to avoid the over-buying or the under-buying of groceries. They are a quality product, and they make the kitchen look great.Whether you want to buy many of them or just a few, I generally recommend the larger sizes. They provide the best bang-for-the-buck, and permit greater flexibility. Specifically, I would start with a few of the large-square types to see if you like them as much as I do.Thank you for those who posted before me. Much of what I have said consolidates what you mentioned before, and really helped with my purchasing decisions. For those of you still stuck in the decision-making process; good luck! I hope this helps out a little.

Great Canisters!
I read several reviews before purchasing these containers. I had also seen them in several stores (Dillard's, Kohl's). I liked the way they look and since I have a disability, they looked easy to open and close, but were still airtight. This was important to me. I ordered the 10 piece set, plus 3 - 4qt square containers. Here is my take:1. The containers are awesome!2. I love being able to look at the container and see what and how much is in the container. It is great for making your shopping list.3. I don't like that I have to hand wash them, but then you don't have to wash canisters very often.4. One broke in shipping - But I did the return through Amazon.com and received the replacement in LESS than 24 hours. I was astonished! Amazon sent the replacement with one-day shipping. I used the same box Amazon sent to me and printed there label, so all I had to do is had the box to the Post Office. It was pretty easy.5. Some may consider that a pain, but considering the cost saving over Kohl's ($21.99) and Dillard's On-line ($16.99), in the store they were $21.99. Neither store had the 10 Piece set.I would recommend these containers, especially if you have arthritis in your hands.

Clean design, good organization, love this set!
Have been thinking about this set for a while. Went into a C&B store to see in person and still wasn't sure about the plastic of the containers. It is a harder, more brittle seeming plastic and some of the in-store pieces did have scratches on them. I needed to see these in person to visualize their sizes and figure out what I'd put in each of them. In the end a C&B employee came by and she was telling me how she loves her set and has never had issues with them breaking (my main concern as they seem like they would shatter if dropped). I used one of those bar code scanning apps on my phone and found the set cheapest on Amazon and bought it right away.I couldn't afford to buy more pieces at the time, but amazingly these 10 pieces alone have organized my tiny pantry cabinet so that I can get at everything without an avalanche of baking supplies falling out.I did check out the OXO site to learn about sizes and uses for all their POP pieces. Their pieces come in 3 main shapes as far as the width and length of the lids go:- big square 6.2" X 6.2"- small square 4.2" X 4.2"- rectangle 4.2" X 6.2"And 5 main heights:-3.1"-6.2"-9.3"-12.4"-13.5"The standardization in their sizing helps with stacking. The available BIG SQUARE pieces are (I've *'d the ones included in this set):-5.5 qt - 12.4" high - suggested use is bulk cereal, chips, pretzels-4.0 qt - 9.3" high - 5lb bag of flour or sugar - **** (1) comes in this set ****-2.4 qt - 6.2" high - rice, cookies, crackers - **** (1) comes in this set ****-0.8 qt - 3.1" high - baking items, biscotti, crackers, flatbreads, nutsThe available SMALL SQUARE pieces:-2.1 qt - 13.5" high - suggested use is spaghetti, linguine, lasagne noodles - **** (1) comes in this set ****-1.5 qt - 9.3" high - granola, beans, licorice-0.9 qt - 6.2" high - standard 1lb box brown sugar - **** (2) come in this set ****-0.3 qt - 3.1" high - spices, dried chilis, bouillon - **** (2) come in this set ****The available RECTANGLE pieces:-3.4 qt - 12.4" high - suggested use is boxed cereal, lasagne-2.5 qt - 9.3" high - rice, pasta, breadsticks - **** (1) comes in this set ****-1.5 qt - 6.2" high - 1lb bag of coffee beans-0.5 qt - 3.1" high - tea bags, candy, sugar cubes - **** (2) come in this set ****I wasn't sure if I wanted all the smaller containers initially, but now that they're in use, I love them and want more. The smallest (2) 0.3 qt containers now hold celtic sea salt and baking powder. The (2) 0.5 qt hold corn meal and cornstarch. The (2) 0.9 qt hold brown sugar and powdered sugar. The 2.1 qt and 2.5 qt hold pasta. The 2.4 qt holds sugar/sucanat (I buy in bulk - this container wouldn't fit a 5 lb bag of sugar). And the 4.0 qt holds flour. I want to get more of the smaller ones to hold my baking soda, other smaller quantities of different types of flours/sugars/etc., my regular table salt... standardizing everything into these containers makes it so easy to get at and see everything. I just suggest getting/using a label maker for everything while you're organizing so you don't forget what is in each container.I originally thought I'd want the 5.5 qt for flour and sugar, but that container is huge and overkill. The 4.0 qt is the appropriate size. These containers stack nicely, look good, and are easy to clean. As I'm putting long-time staples in mine, handwashing these on rare occasions is not a big deal to me (and I abhor handwashing any dishes).I've decided I'm not normally rough on my pantry containers and as everything is easily accessible, I probably won't be dropping and breaking any of these any time soon. These were the best option I could find on the current market. And I love the ease of the POP tops.

Sturdy and a good seal, while still being quick and easy to open/close.
Very sturdy containers which manage to provide quick and easy access while still sealing very well. The aluminum lids certainly have a stronger aesthetic appeal versus the other colors, however are a constant source of fingerprints/smudge marks. This is a very handy set to have if you like to buy your foods in bulk.
