I purchased the MONKEY SUN 4 Pack Black Slate Cheese Boards not for their intended purpose of hosting magnificent charcuterie spreads, but for the much more aggressive task of having my powerful laser cutter etch designs onto their perfect, black surfaces. And let me tell you, these things are slate perfection. They handle the heat, the smoke, and the general existential threat of being zapped by a powerful diode with the stoic resilience of a seasoned warrior. They come out looking flawless, with beautiful white etching that pops against the deep black. The "natural edge" is a nice touch—it makes the resulting engraved masterpiece look ancient and valuable. But what about their primary function? Well, I tested one before sacrificing the rest to the laser god. And yes, they are also magnificent for cheese. They're heavy, they look fancy, and the four little feet mean your artisanal Gouda isn't sliding all over the table. In summary: For the Enthusiast: If you're looking for high-quality, evenly cut slate that holds up beautifully to heavy etching, engraving, or drilling, these are your jam. They do exactly what they need to and make your work look professional. Quick delivery great product

I chose these because of the size. The 9x5 sold are just about only good for sushi and 12x8 are now approaching being a real dinner plate. This 10x6 is perfect for appetizers or desserts which is what I wanted. These plates had small chips come off during shipping and I expect they will continue to come off with use. Shale is just a very weak stone so I expected that. I’ll just be careful washing them.

We got these to have our favorite restaurant make up artisan cheese boards for an open house we gave. Neighbors loved them!

They are of generally uniform shape and size and as expected vis a vis ease of cleaning, however, be careful not to cut anything on them. I made the mistake of trying to cleave off a bit of cheddar for a cheese platter and wound up snapping a chunk off. Lesson learned

After reading reviews of other brands of slate boards arriving broken, I was thrilled to see how very carefully this brand was packed. Each individual board was supported by cardboard corners, shrink-wrapped, and then encased in styrofoam holders. I think delivery could have tossed the box and the slates would have been fine. They look exactly as pictured and are very nice.

I use a lot of 4" slate coasters for my laser engraving business. Had a customer that wanted a larger product for his daughter's birthday so I bought some of these. I will be doing more projects like this in the future!
