Sunlight in a Can.
The only other light I've owned is a 200 lumen Fenix and it was hard to imagine how anything could be significantly brighter than that, but this light just completely blows that one out of the water. It's extremely bright, extremely. It's got a nice build quality and bulk to it, if you're curious it's about the exact same size as an empty toilet paper roll. You're going to need to buy batteries for it, and I seriously recommend purchasing some pricey name brand 18650's, don't skimp on batteries this big, also the NiteCore i4 charger is awesome, highly recommend. Overall this is the brightest light I've ever even held, well worth the money.

UPDATED: Sun in a can bright, still would be nice a mechanical switch
Got a replacement and this one works (doesn't flicker when OFF). Looks like the other one I got was actually opened, because this one came with everything sealed in bags, whereas the other one had some stuff inside the flashlight. I am updating the review rating and giving it a 4 star instead of 5 because I still think the mechanical switch should be a must on a flashlight like this. This light is brighter than anything else I own by an ample margin; don't expect 1 km throw out of this light tho, this is more of a flood light for short/medium ranges than a helicopter mounted spotlight... It is a tad on the big side but not too uncomfortable to use.I ended up with the same base model as I have no need for any of the extra stuff that the kit comes with.==== Original review ===As title reads. When you power it off, it will start flickering after a few minutes of being "turned off". Batteries I am using are Panasonic NCR18650B 3400 unprotected. This was my first (and it might very well be my last) brand name flashlight. Before it I've purchased all kinds of 'el cheapo' XML and XML2 flashlights and bike flashlights; all from unknown name with a surprisingly high rate of success and these took "mods" even better. The only thing this flashlight is got going for itself is that it outshines every other flashlight I have by a long shot, but flickering while "off" scores it highest in the "Turd-o-meter" Shame because I liked it a lot.I'll return it and might give the kit version a try. The kit version has a button on the tail cap and a stainless steel crenelated bezel and some other goodies for only a few extra bucks.

Big mistake, don't buy.
Battery life is under 10 minutes at full power. I doubt the 1,000 lumen rating. Lanyard broke on 1st use. Switch is difficult to find in the dark.

Difficult to program
My neighbor who has been into Ham for over forty years could not program it. He spent four or five hours trying. Looks well made but had to return it.

Nice, but not the price
While it is a bright light, I have a few more that are brighter and have a good bit more throw(distance) though bigger(fenix tk75, olight sr 90). After receiving this light, I remembered I should have ordered the kit version. Having a switch on the side is a pain! In the dark, it will take you a few seconds to find the switch, not a problem with switch on back. This light has so many modes, you will need to read the manual, practice a bit, and use them often if you want to remember how to access them. I truly do not like a light that you have to screw the head up and down to select different modes, as this light does. Modes are also selected from the switch in conjunction with the head adjustment. I do like the batteries are inserted right into the body instead of having a holder like some lights. If you are really serious about lights, buy quality batteries, not the 2 to 5 bucks pieces of junk, good ones will be at least 10.00 to 20.00 each. Also, buy a quality charger, starting around 20.00 I have some much cheaper lights that have a xml u2 bulb that are not much dimmer than this unit, and they are 100.00 cheaper. While I feel this is a quality light, I can't see the price being more than 50.00. I like to check out different lights, so I will add this one on the shelf with the other few dozen!

Crazy Bright!
I have have a dozen high quality lights/torches and this is by far the brightest. While I don't have any means to check the claims of lumens or distance I would say it does the job and is what I expected. While this is a really bright light it is not very good at throwing it. So you will be able to illuminate EVERYTHING around you for a good 100 yards or more. While the description claims 300+ yards it wouldn't be that bright because the beam isn't that focused. Think of it as a flashlight that is as bright or brighter than a set of car headlights in the palm of your hand!THe controls are very nice and smooth. It has memory for the last setting that you used. Size and runtime are also good. The reason for 4 stars and not 5 is that after 6 months of light use it started flickering and died today. Since this is my first EagleTac light I am reviewing the light and the company. I will update in a month to see how customer service handles this.
